I want to buy a Dell desktop computer and a Sony TV. Is there any price/ service difference between buying online or from a computer shop?

Have Dell changed their business model?

AFAIK, Dell computer can be purchased only online or through phone. Are you talking about second-hand Dell computer to purchase from a store?

About TV, buying in store can be instant and ordering online can take few days to few weeks. Choice could depend on price difference and shipping and handling charges too.

Raj,

Dell do have some stores / kiosks in most malls. There is one at Scarborough Town center I know of.

Regarding purchasing online / in the shop, it really matters on the items you order.

TV and computer ofcourse have lot more than just the price to be considered. On the web you do you own research and decide on the bsais of your knowledge of the product and your requirements. In store, you have knowledgable staff to help you figure out the right product. Most stores match the price of the web, so you get the benefit of both the worlds. Just walk to any major retailer who sells the product you need and see how much more they can tell you about the product than you already know (unless you are already an advanced user/expert).

For smaller items keyboards, mouse, etc... online is convienent.

Hope this helps.

You do not pay taxes when you buy stuff online (most of the times) plus some people offer free shipping too.

I havent noticed unless its a promotion. What is the value of $50 delivery charges (if at all) against getting the right $500 TV or $1000 computer? On the other hand- stores offer an employment opportunity for many younsters and those you wish to abstain from labour jobs.

Just my opinion.

That's probably true in the US. Based on your profile, I see that U are locate in the US. That too, the law states that if the store does not have an outlet in that state, then it's no tax, else tax is to be charged.
