Recently I paid a visit to a nearby dentist located in Mississauga. I had a little trouble with my wisdom tooth. The dentist took few xrays (initial, just to look at the structure) and gave estimate for removal of that wisdom tooth.
He gave the following estimates :
. $125 for specialist consulting fee
. $50 for xray
. And something between $1300 to $1700 for the tooth removal (depending on what the specialist comes up with )

This estimate is just for removal of the wisdom tooth. Looks like too high, so i thought let me see what our other canadiandesis think about this.

Has any of our friends had any such experience ? Anything would help.

woh....1300 to 1700 for a wisdom tooth extraction. My wife paid around 250 for the same a couple of months ago.

My husband had to get a lower wisdom tooth removed and we went to a oral surgeon and she charged around 400$ including the panoramic x-ray. it was a relatively difficult tooth to extract , as there was hardly much tooth surface to hold on to ,to extract it.

now i know that the more difficult the position of the tooth in the bone ,the costilier it would be for u. and if the tooth is impacted ,meaning submerged in the upper or lower jaw bone, the tougher it wud be to extract it.... but however difficult it is 1300-1700$ sounds a bit too much. u shud get another opinion,just take the x-rays with u and see another dentist or preferably an oral surgeon .

Sometimes it is depending on how complicated is your situation. For e.g. before they extract 4 wisdon tooths they will have to do thing 1 thing 2etc.

Often insurance extract is higher and if you want to pay is less. $1700 seems to be on the higher side. Try other places and compare their costs. Sometimes shopping around does pay off. Good luck.
