It's funny how experiences differ - I've had the exact opposite experience in the US vs Canada.

My dentist in the US was a shameless salesperson for different services and gadgets.

He wanted me to have all sorts of cosmetic work done, and everything either through him or other dentists/orthodontists that he recommended.

OTOH, my dentist here is nice, ethical and not pushy.
She tells me what treatments I need in the near future and the ones I can defer.
She backs up her recommendations by showing me X-rays and other investigations

Hey what was that website that lists doctors in your province and asks you to rate them? Someone once posted a link on here somewhere but I forget what it is now...it was pretty interesting information though. Anyone know what site I'm referring to?

Our pediatrician does this.
Last month the sent us a letter saying that his charges for services not covered by OHIP were the following :
(I am just giving a small sample)
1. Consultation over the phone over medication / medical condition (15 mins.) - $ 50
2. Leave certificates - $25
3. Medicines not covered by OHIP - He listed some medicines and the cost for each
4. Speaking on the phone to your insurer (15 mins) - $50

and the list went on. He had listed some 20 service and the appropriate fee for each one of them.
Next is the funny part.
He said that he would be providing all these services FREE if we paid $100 a year for an Individual or $250 a year as a family. I donot even know if this kind of marketing technique is ethical under the hippocratis oath (which all doctors affirm to).
I just tore the letter as soon as I saw it and made a vow that I will not use him again under any circumstances. I am looking for a new pediatrician.
Can some one tell me as to if I should infrom my former pediatrican this or I can just walk away? I donot want to be hit with a fine for moving without telling him. Until last 3 month he was very good . In the last meeting that I had with him, he sent an intern to do the examination and the Intern did not know anything at all (like taking weight, taking circumfrence and heights, use the stethescope etc...) while he was seeing a "more important" patient.

TK, all Drs have these charges but they are listed in their clinic, but I am referring to relating our every problem to a paid solution specially foot and marketing their paid vaccines in every visit.

Your other pediat will have same charges.

The intern thing, most of they have them at one point or other.

I did not like it either and I was told by my friend, if I dont like it, I should clearly tell my dr. On other hand I was thinking if we all say no, how will the intern learn ? Not that it is our reposnsibility...but....

My experience is entirely different. I go to a same doctor in a walk In practice. This Doctor is owner of this pratcice where some 5-6 more doctor work. This doctor take always less then a minute ( some time 40-50 secs) , fills up my prescription & I am totally sattisfied with his services. In one sesson of 4 hours, he sees something like 80-100 paitent & all of them are happy by treatment.

Desi_driller: my concern would be that if you had a serious illness, or your symptoms were in acombination that were unusual and could signal something serious, a walk in clinic doctor who rushes you in and out may just rush into diagnosing something. My doctor is different..he'll spend around 20 minutes.. he'll sit down and ask how you are doing.

Walk in doctors are very robotic. My experience is that they walk in and sit down. They dont say "Hi" or ask how you are doing..how how they can help you.

As people have mentioned, medicine is also a business of sort. These dr's are making $45 per patient or more. Does that not warrent a moment? I dont return to a doctor unless he's a human being !!

I have had some doctors that prescribe antibiotics for everything.

TK: Your former doctor may send a collection agency after you - if you owe money and dont pay.

In reply to your post. Yes, everybody will say the same thing what U are saying about my doctor. But in fact reality is quite different in this case. I travel a lot overseas & get my medical check up done by some very good clinics around the world. I always found prescription & treatment provided by this " Walk In " doctor to be OK.
Also before migrating to Canada , I had similar type of Doctor in Mumbai.
May be I am a lucky guy.
