The 'running' doctors with no time to hear patients sounds so familiar. We had a few such docs before finally settling down for one. New one is well experienced, takes time to listen, asks questions, looks at previous history etc. Overall we are satisfied now. Waiting time irritates sometimes, but we will stick to this one.
However, we are still on the lookout for a better doctor for my 6 yrs old daughter. We are hopeful
So many people have suggested trying a few doctors.
There is usually a long queue for getting a family doctor. I am curious - How do you manage to pick and choose and change doctors when there are hardly any doctors available that accept new patients?

Reference works a big way. After talking with other friends, we came to know about better doctors. They didnt accept new patients. However, an internal referral works favorably. Sifarish!!!

I have another issue with our dr. Now a days he is always trying to sell some thing to us , it could be a vaccination $ 55, anything you complain he will link it to feet and suggest a shoe sole - $ 350 - 500....(lloks like he has a prtnership of mfg those) and a vaccination or drug for some cancer....whatever is paid directly to him and not covered thru ohip.
Aashu,
Our pediatrician does this.
Last month the sent us a letter saying that his charges for services not covered by OHIP were the following :
(I am just giving a small sample)
1. Consultation over the phone over medication / medical condition (15 mins.) - $ 50
2. Leave certificates - $25
3. Medicines not covered by OHIP - He listed some medicines and the cost for each
4. Speaking on the phone to your insurer (15 mins) - $50
and the list went on. He had listed some 20 service and the appropriate fee for each one of them.
Next is the funny part.
He said that he would be providing all these services FREE if we paid $100 a year for an Individual or $250 a year as a family. I donot even know if this kind of marketing technique is ethical under the hippocratis oath (which all doctors affirm to).
I just tore the letter as soon as I saw it and made a vow that I will not use him again under any circumstances. I am looking for a new pediatrician.
Can some one tell me as to if I should infrom my former pediatrican this or I can just walk away? I donot want to be hit with a fine for moving without telling him. Until last 3 month he was very good . In the last meeting that I had with him, he sent an intern to do the examination and the Intern did not know anything at all (like taking weight, taking circumfrence and heights, use the stethescope etc...) while he was seeing a "more important" patient.
