This is my opinion, i could be wrong too.
The grass is always greener on the other side - but for me, I am used to 'color' and 'humor' etc. I love the Socal lifestyle.
Its a question of wherever one wants to make home wheather its Canada, USA or India.

rahul singh: FYI, US is anyday better than Canada in terms of economy, jobs, money, education, career. As an IT professional with european, middle-eastern experience, i was not able to find decent job as long as i lived in Canada. Since i could not find decent job, i could not afford decent living for myself and my family and then i started looking for job across the border, Not only i get triple the money i made in Canada, i am respected as well, as it is hard for American employers to find experienced professionals. Therefore, i can afford decent living here and enjoy the quality of life and fun what these 2 countries have to offer. If someone gives me same money in Canadian dollars in Canada, i will definitely move back but pay is too low in Canada coz of excess labor in Canadian job market. This is my opinion, i could be wrong too.

Hmm ... You are putting ideals and political beliefs before money and weather! So what were the reasons you decided to abandon the country, you were born and brought up in? Are these "ideals and beliefs" newly developed after immigrating to Canada?
What are you going to do if the Canada gets extremely right-winged political rule? Move to Antartica!
Only one country, America, accounts for quarter of the world trade. A country doesn't get that kind of influence without the wilpower, determination and ambition of its people. WHINERS don't make leader whether it is a person, corporation or country.
I will bet the country, you immigrated from, most probably stood in line outside America's door for american grants/loan. From one end, you want to take American money but from other end you want them to stop interfering. In life nothing comes free, everything has strings attached.
Realize this 85% of Canadian trade is with America. Remove that share from the trade equation, and Canada will not be any better than the third world country. Are you not going to move then from Canada? Would that be because of belief or standard of living, i.e. money.
Sorry to be direct. Your arguments come across as hollow beliefs and just sour grapes!

Pasand apni apni.
Time to time, I have been coaxed, cajoled, persuaded, brain-washed - to move to US, but I refuse to budge a bit, from this pressure.
For me, living in Canada, is more of an idealistic issue.
First of all, I do not agree with the extreme right wings policies of current US government. I do not support the war in Iraq or any kind of American interference in world politics.
I do not know how desis in America live, but for me, it is difficult to detach myself from the political scenario, and live a secluded life concentrating on just making money.
Second, in Canada, you are an Indo-Canadian. You can be as Indian as you want, and as Canadian as you want. It is a cultural mosaic. In US, you have to be a part of melting pot. I refuse to give up my identity.
Then there are minor issues - minor to most of people, major to me. I cannot count in gallons/lbs/miles/Farenheits. I cannot spell colour or humour without an \"U\" :-).
As an Indian, we have inherited the English language skills from Britishers. If you are in Canada, you can still maintain those skills. In US, you have to be the part of the flock.
I believe that issues like weather or more money are minor compared to my thoughts and ideals. I can never make adjustments with my ideals, just for the sake of money.

JRF,
Your situation sounds like what I was in 5 years ago. I made same arguments after living in US for 10 years, as you wrote, to convince myself that moving to Canada will be right move. Our arguments are based on assumption that the standard of living, lifestyle, work environment, your value will be somewhat similar in both places.
And after living in Canada for 5 years, I realized those assumptions were the fallacy and weaknesses that made my arguments in favor of Canada irrelevant in the larger picture.
This is my advise. If your GC is in process, stick it out. I understand your desire for freedom, but you will be whole lot "FREE" after waiting another 3-4 years for GC instead of moving to Canada and waiting another 3-4 years for citizenship so that you can join the same grind again in US. :-(
Get Canadian PR to keep it as insurance if you feel that you will be worse off moving back to India if something goes wrong with your US GC process.

Thogh I find you've written it more jovially, I feel it is the reality.
I've been living in US for more than 7 years with No Green Card now I pretty much want to tatse the freedom of being a PR and have a settled mind that \\\"This is the place where I am gonna set my home\\\" instead of worrying \\\"Oh, if I lose this Job, I may need to pack my Bag\\\".

OK. SO????
I wrote what I felt. If you feel that US is greatest country, you are free to believe that. Isn't that what Britishers felt about Britian, a few decades before???

I think when one immigrates one thinks of embracing the surrounding identity also. After 4 year we wud be Canadians ..........more so after 10 years ........Canada is a land of fresh Immigrants where each ethinicity has their identity blended into the whole. In short being a Canadian means u cud be a Chinese , Indian , British - allowed 2 follow ur own customs & belief and still b a Canadian ........... Thats the beauty of being a Canadian unlike the US / UK where u HAVE 2 b essentially an American / British to live there ........ u tend to lose ur identity . Getting a Green Card doesnt make u and American ......... and I dont know how much Americans accept non Americans as one of their own !!
These are my thoughts m but they can b wrong as I ve never been 2 the US ..............feel free 2 correct me.
Manasvi.
