I made an appointment with a doctor which was two weeks away and forgot all about it. Now the doctor has sent us a bill of 40 dollars asking us to pay for missed, no show charges.. what do i do?.. Any advice in this matter is greatly appreciated
If the Doc has sent you an invoice of X amount that means they have the policy at the clinic which they must have brought to your attention. It must be posted everywhere in the clinic as well. Sometimes DOC ask to sign their patients some kind of agreement too indicating the same as one of the terms and conditions.
Well, Its a tricky question. Nevertheless Doc can not refuse the patient regarding any healthcare issue. Having said that he is an independent business man too.
My understanding is if you do decide to pay you can claim this later as tax rebate by showing your medical expenses.
Usually Doc which such policies, their assistants call to remind you of your scheduled appointments and prefer that patients give 24 hours notice when canceling; however, we do realize that at times this is not possible. If an appointment is missed without notice they do charge around $40 for regular appointments, and around $90 for physicals or for procedures for which they have blocked a considerable amount of time.
You may want to call OMA (Ontario Medical Association) @ Toll-Free: 1-800-268-7215.
Thanks so much for your response..
No mention was made at all about having to pay an amount if we missed the appointment at the time of fixing the appointment nor was a call put thru to find out why we're not present at the given time..
There you go then...you have a reason for bailing out.
Not to worry :-)
