What is point of getting a GC after 7 years of worrying? Is GC that worth unless you become a millionaire in US? If get GC after 7 years make it point to make a million dollars at least before you retire.

Statistics show 65% population go belly-up in US due to health reasons. So make sure if you are in US keep you self healthy.

Similarly, What is the point of getting Canadian PR after 3-4 years of worrying? I have personally seen people worry about getting PR from the day they submit their application for PR.
US or Canada Debate can go on forever as both have different advantages and disadvantages.
US advantages are swelling economy with lots of high paying jobs for professionals. flip side is health care, for which most companies do pay, even dental and vision, 401k, transit expenses etc etc. moderate weather compared to canada. slightly higher value of dollar incase one wants to send money to india or invest. Access to good universities for kids especially instate universities where u pay the least amout of tuition fee. Access to better consumer products in the same kind of price and even cheaper than in Canada.
Disadvantages are High crime but not compared to toronto. Green card coz most desis start off with work permit compared to canada as desis come to canada with PR but without a job where as in US desis come with job but without PR. That part also can be achieved but it takes time in the processing. Less better paying professional jobs for new generation of highly educated desis in Canada. Therefore, less better lifestyle than their counterparts in Canada. Medical is free but one has to pay for medicines, where as in US employer sponsored health care provider takes care of even the medicines. High price of car insurance. High taxes in most provinces like 15% on all the purchases compared to 4-5% in most US states.
But again, it is individual choice whether US or Canada.

Would have thought that the weather in the North east, is pretty similar to what we have here in Toronto!

Access to better products........that you don't get in Canada? Hmm, what's this supposed to mean?

Depends on what city you are talking about. Are you trying to suggest even for a moment that Toronto's crime rate is higher than a city like LA or Detroit?!!!

Employers in Canada 'take care' of medicines as well!

Sales taxes at 4-5% in most states? You might want to check your facts!

Didn't mean to get stuck into this thread, but just thought that some of the arguments in the post above were hare-brained.

1. Respect. Desi's are better known in the US as highly educated, competitive, motivated, many are CEO's, and Indian engineering talent is now the talk of the nation as jobs get contracted to India.

2. Desi's know that the US has and always will have a better plan to stay competitive, and pursue a higher standard of living. They are not pre-occupied with vague notions such as "liberal values" and a parliament that actually has separatists influencing decisions for the nation.

3. The US has been and continues to be an "economic engine". Wealth generation is highest there. Canada, if left to its own social welfare agenda, would have a much smaller economy if it wasn't for the very high level of US trade and economic activity that raises our standard of living.

Maybe in a strictly professional sense. But respect at a personal / social level? That's another story.

You could be a CEO of XYZ Tech Inc., you'll still get that wierd look from the girl at the checkout and the restaurant waiter will probably serve someone else first even though you arrived before. The immigration officer still looks at you like you're a criminal. Gulp your self-respect down. You can try complaining but at one point, you just give up thinking its not worth it. Fact remains that the US is still a far more racist society when compared to Canada.

The "attachment" is purely driven by the absorption power of the massive US economy and the material benefits it brings. All the attachment is gone the day that changes. It has very little to do with respect.

For instance, America's a democracy. A lot of desis love life in the Gulf despite tbe blatant discriminatory practices. I wouldn't call it attachement though.

I agree with the first part of your second point and with your third point.

Are you there?
