My work permit is in process. I have also applied for immigration. What happens in this situation? Does it help? Will my application be still valid? How does it work?

can I claim additional 10 points for work permit?
if you have a valid job offer in Canada , you sould be abe to get additional points.
I did a little digging myself and I believe that the work permit should be backed with a HRDC approved permanent offer. This would give me 10 points. But with only work permit (which I believe is termed as temporary and duration is 1 yr) I do not get any points. However after working for 1 year with this work permit, I am eligible for 5 points.
Does canada have employment based greencard or something ? or everybody has to follow the point system of immigration?
