Work permit extension along with PR?

Hi,
I am in Canada since last 1 year and had applied for work-permit Extension in June.I have also applied for PR in Feb 2005.Whenever I am calling the their helpline(1-888-242-2100), they tell me that applciation has been picked up but no decision ahs been made on issuing extension of my work-permit, and they're still reviewing it.

Can you please tell me whether my PR aplication would have any iompact on my work-permit extension ? Or these are 2 different things ? Would extension process take longer time if I have applied for PR as well ?
