Companies retain temp agencies to find people who suit their needs and send'em for interview. For contratual jobs, employers do not have much time to interview and reinterview. Earlier, I had mentioned the names of 3 temp agencies retained by one of the major canadian bank. Some companies have their own temp agency which can be used to hire someone referred by the co. full-time employee. Thru networking and research, you'll know which agency is retained by whom. You'll need to do some homework once you come here, but it's not a big deal. The names/ads of temp agencies can be found on this website or workopolis or local newspapers like Toronto Star. Some companies also advertise directly. It is worth trying everywhere as we never know where we'll luck out.

Just to share my experience, to get a tech support job here is also veruy tough. I have tried Reitmans, Venetor, NCR and IBM and they will takje your resume and biodata and put in on file.
They says they will call you or you can call them everyday, but nothing comes up. I have been calling these companies for 8 months already and I am a Tech Support Specialist by profession.
Just wanted to warn you the above agencies.
