There seems to be a misconception amongst us here that HINDI MOVIES is our culture. I have 2 children and they know about our scriptures and they understand our language and I know that as they grow up they will also want to speak it. but I do not encourage Hindi movies because not only do most of them teach poor and foul language but also wrong Ideas.

I think the key is that we should teach our children what we think is best and then let them choose their own lives they have to fly out of the nest somday and we will not be there always to help so they need to learn by making their own mistakes.

Get out from Indian/Chinese ghettos and live some nice open free space. Here in NJ, I notice in one apartment complex that few Indian ladies are sitting in front of swimming pool wearing sarees and making sweaters. A new definition of what you can do with swimming pool chairs. After some time the management put a board of appropriate dress for swimming pool.
Experience different food/travel/interact/meet/go out/have friends from different culture/countries who you feel are nice/educated/safe. Try to make your kids and wife comfortable with swimming/karate/ English music/go out for English movies. Take wife for so called date so she feels special. When there is communication gap or kids feel that you don’t understand what they want to say then problem starts.
If you come from Jalandhar or Madras and live with same people with same thinking and everyday same stupid discussion than you may land up with same confuses state of mind even after living many years in US/Canada.
This is my personal thinking. It does not mean that living in ghettos is bad.

whats wrong in wearing sarees and making sweaters in front of swimming pool...? Drinking bear and messing the pool is legal right???
If the pool isnt occupied and its winters as it seems to be the case for women making sweaters...then whats the harm in it

"whats wrong in wearing sarees and making sweaters in front of swimming pool...? Drinking bear and messing the pool is legal right???"
There is nothing wrong what you wear.
But sitting on swimming pool chair in summer and making sweater or making mess with pool by any way (putting beer) is wrong.
Here question is not legal right but common sense.
there is nothing wrong in wearing sarree or salwarkameez. its just that those things have got associated with ppl who live ere and dont widen their horizons. i have an aunt who has been in US for 52 yrs and wears only sarrees but she has dauter-inlaws and sons in law who are americans white. they are truly intergrated. they teach their children about their culture but not force it on to them. they welcome all ppl in their family.
we as INdians want to be accepted here that ppl should respect us but are not willing to accept and welcome them into our homes. . I think that is what rahul and ashish30 mean. Wr can have an Identity inspite of mixing with other cultures. If we open our homes they too will welcom us well.
Sombody once said : "dont pickup from the waistpaper baskets of the world " we like to make up our accents , and all wrong stuff. I am sure there is alot of good here . why not take that and integrate it with the good in our culture . rather than regect everthing blatently.
