Dear CD's,

I will be coming to Canada first time with family - wife and two children for PR. We shall stay there for about one month begining from 27 July, 06.

I wish to utilize this trip to do some research in choosing a right place for our future settlement.

We plan to visit Toronto, Kitchner, London, Hamilton, Nayagara, Calgary, Edmonton and finally Vancouver. I have following questions:

1. I do not want to depend on public transport and I wish to travel by road self driving hired car everywhere except Toronto to Calgary and Edmonton to Vancouver. I have been driving (Left hand driving) in gulf for more than 10 years. Is it safe and comfortable to drive there? Is it economical compared to bus service?

2. Which is best way to visit Kitchner, London, Hamilton, Nayagara and back to Toronto- a) Traveling from Toronto to one or two places everyday or b) travel through with one or two stops at night in London/Hamilton/Nayagara?

3. Is it worth including Kingston, Ottawa & Montreal to already tight schedule? My main focus is to visit industrial areas where prospectus of getting a job is more with my Engineering background.

3. Which is the best mode of transportation from calgary to Edmonton - By Air or by road?

4. I understand travel by train from Edmonton to Vancouver is good to see the nature's beauty. But travel by VIA train in sleeper class cost almost three times than air. Cost of travel in comfort class sitting is almost same as airfare. Is it worth spending that much amount to travel by train in sleeper class? Can we travel 24 hours journey, sitting?

5. I wish to stay in furnished accomodation in Toronto from 27 July to 13 Aug, preferably in accomodation of people going on vacation during this time. I did not get good response for my adv in classifieds. Can anyone suggest other sources of finding accomodation, I am looking for?

Your advice will help me a lot in planning my trip to serve the purpose.

What engineering background do you have? If it is in Mechanical/Industrial/Production/Manufacturing, you might find opportunities within ON in Kitchener/Cambridge/Guelph/Waterloo region, St.Catherines (by Niagara Falls), Brampton, Oakville, Tillsonburg, Windsor, Tilbury, London to name a few.

Dimple,

I am an Electrical Engineer with experience mostly in Power Stations. I worked in Projects, O&M, Field services. I am good for Thermal & Gas power stations. I may be OK with other industries also.

I will not be putting any efforts to find a job during my first trip. I would like to filter out cities / towns in industrial areas of Canada based on our liking for the city. It may give me an idea where I should focus for job search in future.

Since you are travelling on a tight schedule, try using air instead of rail. Since you will be here in summer, you can try driving to Vancouver from Calgary or Edmonton. I think it is about 10-12 hrs. drive. That way you will be able to enjoy the scenic beauty.

Also if you are coming to Calgary, incorporate Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper & Columbia Icefields in your travel plans. Extremely beautiful places. Mind-blowing. Don't miss a chance to see the Rockies. Extend your trip by a week if you have to.
