Dear All,
Its been time, since I wrote something on CD. However, whenever I get time I do open the website and follow it as much as possible.
I thought of writing this as yesterday at 4:50 PM, we completed our first year in CANADA. My mind was rewinding everything, which happened in these 365 days. I still remember my input in one of the posts, SURVIVAL, ESTABLISHMENT and RISING...Yes, I am happy to mention here that, we have in fact earned a feel of establishment in the first year itself. By ESTABLISHMENT, I mean a strong foundation for us to rise after some time. CANADA settlement has got a SCIENCE in to it. I realised it quickly after coming here (off course it varies with people and its background of work experience and profile). But for us, as things were decided, what will come on our way (thanks to CD), we were quite planned.
If I make an analysis of what we earned in the first year, then I am quite happy with what has been as the final bottom line of the first 365 days.
My wife got a job immediately in her field of banking and now she is a confirmed employee at the same place.
I got in to my same field and started preparing for all the required licencing and acquired all of then in the first 6/8 months.
Started living in a CONDO (1200/month) from the 4th month of our entry was a bit abnormal, but continued with that plan and enjoyed our living. Off course this had nothing to do with our journey of settlement as we did not even have a strong income support in the first 4 months, but FOR US BALANCE OF WORKIFE was/is equally important and MONEY was/is not everything.
I got my G licence in the 11th month and was happy to find myself having it after talking to many friends and seeing their reaction.
Saw the beautiful north so many times due to my work and have seen the whole geography of the NORTH-WEST and North-EAST Ontario. Met so many different kinds/origin of people and learnt the way, they think..more importantly THE WAY THEY BUY..... (one of the points of the word SCIENCE i used)..
MADE a strong social network, which keeps us busy and happy as we are so many kms away from our home-land.
Well, there are so many things, we feel we have earned, but overall, its not money, which you follow in the very first year, but its the tools, which you earn to have and sharpen them more and more with your experience of the first year and go forward. IN CRICKETING word, you now, know how the ball in turning and seaming and swinging and How's the PITCH!!!!...THIS I THINK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT EARNING of the first year for us.
Friends, once again I would like to thank CD for providing me all the information, I needed, when I was in INDIA and preparing for these days...
Regards,
VJ.
Congratulations on your positive year one !!
Best of luck in all your future endeavors.

Hi VJ:
Glad to hear about your settlement.
1.Could you tell exactly what you have been doing?
2.Self-employed or Salaried?
3.R U selling only Insurance, RRSPs.. or doing Mortgage also?
Warm regards and Good luck ahead.
Good to see a positive story !
Further confirms my belief & also the fact that Canada itself would benefit more from immigrants' experience if they get opportunity in their area of expertise.
Did you do other jobs here? What was your experience in those jobs? Would you have been successful if you had continued in those jobs?
Rgds.
