Dear Friends
I got my Medicals and now within 2-3 months shall be getting my COPR in hand. I have few questions which am sure the experts and experienced folks here can help me in guiding to take right decision/action
Before listing down the questions I would like to highlight that I shall be landing in Toronto and shall be staying there for max a month to complete the initial formalities like stamping the PR, getting SIN and to have an overview of Canadian way of life. Later after a year or so, shall be moving permanently as I have some reasons to be back to my current country of residence.(UAE)
My questions are
1. On my first landing I know I have to show the minimum fund I need to bring in, but in the goods/items to follow list, how should I mention about the funds and the goods which I shall be bringing in later, as I am planning to buy some of the goods just before coming forever to Canada, but I do not have the price worth information for the same, and also how much fund I need to mention then, is it only what I have earned till date of getting PR ? OR probable funds which I may have before landing there for ever.
2. Will my income (earned out of Canada) after stamping the PR and getting SIN become taxable, if so how much percentage will be taxable, and how I should be paying my taxes, what will be the formalities to be done for this.
I do not wish (If there is a legal provision) to pay tax for the income I have not earned in Canada and also when I have not started living in Canada .
Recently a friend informed me that income earned out of Canada after getting PR if is more than 100K CAD, then the amount above 100K is only taxable under the Global income parameter, Is this true? OR is there any other rule or catch 22 situation.
3. Is it better to buy a Laptop from my current resident country or from Canada, especially interested to know in terms of price and quality?
4. In the initial period I shall be in Toronto unless I land up a job in any other city or province, I would like to know which area / wards I should be avoiding to stay in terms of crime counts or better avoid category, also which area has more public transport facilities and health care available.
5. How much is the total cost to get a driving license (I mean from start) and how much time does it take to get it, especially for a person who does not know driving.
"shall be staying there for max a month to complete the initial formalities
like stamping the PR, getting SIN".......
There is no stamping of PR in your passport, instead you have to apply for PR card.

1. The goods to follow list need not be fully accurate, for the things you are planning to buy take an estimate but do put them on the list. I don't think one declares ones savings at the time of landing, one only shows the minimum funds as required for your landing, apart from that whatever savings you have (funds) you don't need to show. Do make a separate jewelry list though.
2. Please check the forum on this, I think if you are not planning to come soon a SIN is not needed, you can apply it on your permanent return. That way you'll not need to declare your worldwide income and tax hassle, but please confirm this from someone.
for pts 3, 4 and 5 I've no idea, I don't reside in Canada yet, hope others can help.

Jonav: Thanks for your time and response, appreciate that.
I kindly request other members who can guide me on my questions in point #2 and # 5.
