Hello,
I plan to file sponsorship papers for my parents for their Canadian residency.
They may not stay in Canada for more than 4 months in a year.
Is there any rule that states that from the day of landing, the landed immigrant must stay in Canada for the first three years out of the first four years to maintain permanent residency status.
Can they have all the priviliges of a landed immigrant without staying continously in Canada ( in excess of 4 months in a year.)
Thanks,
Jack109
yes there is a rule asking permanent residents to stay in country for min of 3 yrs out of 5yr term. not maintaining the status will result in cancelation of their PR card.
2nd unless and untill they stay here and maintain PR status they will not have all the priviliges of landed immigrant.
I would advice you that if your parents can only stay in canada for 4 months in a year then they should go for multiple visitor visa. it will allow them to stay in canada for six months on one entry and then they have to leave the country and come back again later at anytime.
