Hello
I am moving soon to Canada and intend to send a 20 Ft container from Bahrain to Toronto. My local address in Toronto is not final
Any ideas, whether it is better to send cargo upto Torontp port or send door-to-door (temporary address can be provided now).
Please share your experiences
Cheers
Hi,
I am sure lot of CD's have moved from Gulf and sent cargo. Please share your valuable experiences and thoughts on the subject

IMO, you should take Door to Door if the difference between the two is about C$1600-1800.
I had moved from Indonesia and had paid agreed for door to door for three reasons:
1. If it was door to port, I would have to find out everything myself in the initial days of my arrival in Canada - and the info would be no better than what I could have got before leaving for Canada.
2. Having very less time after coming to Canada to arrange things for delivery, I would be forced to accept whatever rate I would have got (which would have been higher since the movers would know that you have already shipped goods and cannot handle things on your own).
3. If by the time goods reached Toronto, I had not moved into my house/apt I could store the goods in the warehouse of the mover who was going to bring it to my place, rather than trying to look for a clearing agent and a warehousing agent, and then a mover.
Hope this helps

I will land in End May. If anybody have some idea of cargo charges from Gulf. Please send me PM.
When we moved from Gulf to Canada, we sold all our furniture, car. We brough only clothing and few other items. We shipped them door to port as it was small cargo.
Hi
I shipped a 20 ft container 18 months ago from Dubai to Vancouver (door to dorr). A friend of mine shipped the same container but to Toronto (Door to port). Price difference was 1700 CAD. The conclusion that I have got to is that door to door was better especially if you use a decent shipping company. At the end of the day the cost on my friend was almost the same and with a lot of hastle. In fact, due to poor packing, he lost a few items (broken). In my case, I got the shipper to do the packing and they did a good job. I also insured the shipment but did not have any damages. The shipping company cleaned the flat after packing in Dubai and unpacking in Vancouver from the packing materials.
