Canadian Finance is mostly dependant on the Income Tax, GST, ROLF, Settlement Funds and related incomes.

If he cuts the GST by 1%, he is going create a budget deficit which has to be fixed by the next liberal goverment which most probably sworn by January 2008.

The other major event has been the increase in your Ontario Hydro bill rates by 15%, and the ongoing sky high prices of gas.

He has visited Pakistan after visiting Afghanistan, and has made a major statement of a rethink on the nuclear relations with India.

He has also outlawed LTTE, and has started deporting the \"illegal\" or \"out of Status\" immigrants from Portugal and other parts of the world.

He is showing himself as a doer, but many of these are quite unpopular and it would further erode the Conservatives base in Ontario.

May be he is doing something good for his home province of Alberta ?.

In the recent Mexican-Cancun meet with Bush and Fox he looked more like a shy school gym teacher than an elderly statesman.

But what I would sincerely wish is that he should bring in mandatory military training to all new immigrants, and whenever there is a crisis in their home land the immigrants from those countries should be sent to do the needfull like peace keeping in place of poor white Goras dying for no reason, while refugees from those lands are enjoying on the Dole.

May be this is all something do with his paunch!.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Actually I heard that Harper wants Canadians to tell our respective MPs that we support the Tory plan to cut the GST rather than the income-tax cuts introduced by the previous government. Speaking in St. John’s yesterday (as reported in The National Post), Mr. Harper said:

To ensure that it [a 1% cut to the GST] becomes a reality, Canadians like yourselves must write, call or e-mail MPs to let them know that it isn’t just our priority, but it’s your priority as well. To be frank, to hinder the implementation of these long-overdue tax-relief measures would be unconscionable.

The income tax cuts work out to roughly $350 per taxpayer. If you are a two-income household earning $35K each, the income tax cuts are clearly better as they put $700 in your pocket. Even if you were a single individual making $35K per year, to get an equal benefit with the cut in the GST you would have to spend more than your entire annual pre-tax income, which is not a sustainable situation.

The cut to the GST is better only for two groups of Canadians: those who have no or very low income and those who are really wealthy.

So please write to your MP urging income tax cuts rather than the GST cut.

I have only 2 cents to contribute, not a cent more, not a cent less ;-)

How can you expect the peacekeepers to be neutral? Lets say there is a requirement for peacekeepers in Srilanka. Imagine what will happen if he trains and sends Canadians of srilankan origin who are predominantly decendents of srilankan tamil refugees? Obviously many will side with LTTE.

Many refugees who escaped ethnic conflicts support militias from their ethnic group. like many srilankan tamil Canadians who support LTTE by monthly donations.

Providing monetary support to LTTE will then be a crime committed by the Cdns of SL origin in Canada...would it not be?

Isn't that already done? I thought they recently announced LTTE as terrorist org., thereby making donations to LTTE illegal.

Yes. It is now illegal to donate / raise funds for LTTE. I had often observed how many Srilanka Tamils in Canada react when the topic of LTTE comes up about on our discussion. They are afraid to critisize any thing about LTTE when in public places.
