I have been told by my cousin and couple of friends (in North America) to come on the MSN chat room to discuss. I don’t get it. If they want to discuss something, feel free to call me or I will call them if they think money is the issue. I am getting annoyed with this. Emails r ok if distance is the issue (eg: from India) or if they dont know me. If they r in NA and know my number, why ask me to come to the chat room? One of my daughter’s friends told her the same. I was listening (eavesdropping) to the conversation. I told them point blank “if you girls want to chat, use the phone, no going to the chat rooms”. Found out that the girl’s mom is a typical superficial lady (wannabe white).
Are we losing human touch thru chat rooms? I don’t understand. I felt offended when my own cousin told me to come to the chat room. Since then I am keeping a distance from him, calling him once in two months.

At the risk of sounding like an obsolete old timer, I do agree with DIO. My cousin who is in India sent me a text message on my cell phone to congratulate me on my new born !!
An email would have been much better since calling might have been prohibitive for the cousin.

A reputed IT company in Ontario uses MSN for communication among staff members. Staff members have to get a Hotmail ID. and then be connected to the MSN all day long. They have to add on to their list of contacts which ever staff member has to be added (if you are not doing anything with a Mr "X", then you donot need to add Mr "X".) Also they were warned that monitering of all their conversations take place to catch personal contacts. Needless to say , no one cares for this rule and they are on the chat rooms/ personal contact list all day long.
Is this what happens in other reputed IT firms? What do IT desi's think of it. This reputed IT firm has around 120 - 130 employees.

If someone is in India, MSN is fine and free too. No problem since it costs money to call and the time gap. In NA, there is something called telephone and its dirt cheap to call. If chatting with friends at the same time, MSN is fine. But one on one? I dont chat with friends at the same time uisng computer. I would rather hear their voice on the phone. If I am considered an old timer, then so be it.

okey, let's look at the third side, i do browse this site often of course to fing useful info. from such a diverse group..and also convince myself that most of these regular CD's must be in IT or at the desk f/t who have time to offer their expert views, at the same time, concerned that here you all might be at the verge of almost loosing human touch..? Regards.
