After around one and a half year in Canada, I have got auto insurance for 135 p.m.
Current status : Age: 35, 96' van, one driver, G2 license, Location: Toronto.
Started with RBC insurance for 365 p.m. After couple of months added tenants insurance (rental apartment contents...i.e. all your belongings) with them ... and they charged for both 300 p.m. (Yes, its true. If you insure more the rate actually comes down) After couple of months got the Drivers training (which costs 150. This is conducted by many driver training institutes. It involves in class training and some road training over four weeks) and the insurance reduced to 250 p.m.
Six months into the insurance called TD for a quote, they offered at 139 for car and 20 dollars p.m for tenants ins. Thats 159 pm. So WOW... confirmed with them and asked RBC to cancel the insurance (Auto Insurance is always a contract for a year, with some undefined penalty for cancelling midway). RBC says they will charge me 400 penalty. I agree.. join TD.
Now, I have finished one year with TD and have also bought a house. But TD will not insure the house and they are charging me only 139 for auto ins. At the end of the 12 months TD sends me the renewal @ 150 p.m. NO thank you sir.
I join a credit union (its the Indian equivalent of a co-op bank. You should check them out. They are are quite cost effective on service fees for some services) for one time share holding of 100 $. They have an arrangement with an insurance co. called 'The Personal' which gives special rates for members. So my new rate is 134 odd something.. lets say 135 p.m. for auto only
