Today, I received an automated voice call just giving message that "this is not a marketing call and an important message for ........ and please call back at a phone no.... (Calgary no.) with extension no. and also said to tell this serial no. (some 14....... no.) while calling back". Later I called back at this no. and found that this no. is from some collection agency named ".........Collection Corporation" in Calgary (I was not able to talk to anybody as office was closed at that time).

I am very surprised & worried about this call from a collection agency as I had an excellent record of paying my bills etc. and had never been late in paying any bill even once.

Is it some hoax or fraud. Or I am a victim of identity theft. The automated voice was not even saying my name properly. I had provided my DOB & SIN no. 3-4 months ago to many apartment buildings while searching for the apartment.

I am very-very worried and until Tuesday (Monday - holiday), I can't even talk to those people. Please guide me what should I do? Anybody heard about this company name or such fraud. I can't find any information about this company on the net.

Monday, August 7th, 2006 is a Civic Holiday - BUT ONLY IN ONTARIO. Alberta will be open. So you could try calling them on Monday.

Monday, Aug. th, 06 is a civic holiday all over Canada except Quebec & Yukon). I found the website of the company and it looks I am in trouble and victim of fraud. I am extremely worried.

Can I access my credit report on-line at http://www.equifax.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK Is it safe to do it on-line, as I just don't feel to give personal info. on-line in these circumstances.

Hi, you are moving in the right direction.
to your questions yes it is safe to buy online credit reports from the "equifax".
First, check your credit report for any negetive remarks and pending payments and reports made to collection agencies by you credit companies.
Also check all your credit statements and bank statements and reconcile bill and payments made. verify for any missing bills( you did not receive and hence remianed unpaid)

Second, if you find something suspicious in your credit report also report immediately to your credit companies and also to the Credit bureaues claiming that it is not your transaction and you are subjected to fraud etc.

Then per the advice of the Credit bureaus and credit companies you will know what exactly needs to be done.

This smells fishy.
Ask Candy1 what happened in that case.
If it is some scam you may have to report it.

:)
