Hi CDs,
It was worth watching the valuable comments of fellow CDs on Canadian ERP market. I am SAP functional consultant with 3 years experience in SAP implementation ( In India). I came to Canada in Jan, 2007 with lots of expectations and hope. Soon, I found that getting job in Canada was not that easy. My experience as under.
1) Canadian ERP market differ from Indian market in terms of resource requirement. Canadian employers prefer recourses with Canadian experience.
2) Difficult to get job with one module expertise( Say SD or MM etc.). You need to be techno-functional or techno-multi functional. You need to hv knowledge in ABAP, testing and good exposure to user exits. In India there is clear cut division between technical and functional modules.
3) The most important one is soft skills and good communication and presentation skills.
My advise to fresher’s ( I mean fresher to ERP jobs) is that it is not easy to get an entry in to ERP job. Most of the institutes both in India and Canada will teach you basics ( say 10% ) and you hv to acquire enough knowledge through self practice and going through SAP help files.
The best way to get an entry is to get train in SAP and get certification. If you hv certification under your belt, chances of getting interviews will be bright, then later getting job purely depends on how well you do yr interview.
Best wishes to all who want to jump in to ERP boat.
Guys,
Can any one tell me how is the SAP ERP market today ? I have SD certification from SAP AG. I did my certification in India from an authorised SAP education partner.
I shall be soon completing 1 year and a half in the field with 1 e2e. Is it worth leaving paying job in India and hunt for a job in Toronto / Mississauga ?
Thanks in advance

Friends,
I could not resist to post this reply.
If you are an engineer with over ten years of industrial experience...from India...it is not at all difficult to get into SAP ERP functional in US...not in Canada...
You should be in a position to orient and justify your experience in material management or production planning....otherwise in sales....for those ten years....which is possible for any indian matured engineers with functional domain experience..then you are sure of getting atleast 30 interviews per month.....
What you require is 3 to 6 months of training in SAP functional module. May be these so called desi training inst could cater for that....if you are sincere & focused...yes it is possible to get in & survive....in SAP ERP world...
cheers

I know people who joined the overnight boom in SAP \"teaching gravvy train"\, dishing out Xeroxed courses from their basements and garages charging $2000 per module. Who would you call a sucker here the teaching shop or the student. I will sad for many who wasted 7 months do a \\\"full time"\\\ course for naught.
BTW I like the way you IT guy use \" "\ it makes that word seem so wacko, like a 25 years old directors special. Yes donot get \"sucked"\into these teaching shops without gettin a list or \"%"\ of student placements.
