RajCanada,
The doctors that i am talking to you about include whites too. By whites i mean Canadian born and educated people. But the majority includes africans, Chinese, East Europeans. These are the kind of guys you find mostly in walk in's. But I have found that my office mates have very high regard to Desi doctors. Even at St. Joeseph's hospital emergency , a Desi doctor made the right diagnosis but he could not be with us for all the 4 days that a family member was in the hospital. He was there on one day and did the right thing while for the other 3 days , other doctors came and messed up with the diagnosis.
However, My experience at sick kids has been mixed. The first time, some whites really messed the diagnosis. The second time, the infant was treated by a jew and he made the right diagnosis.
I beg to differ with you regarding money can get you get doctors in India (if that is what you meant). I have known many doctors who charge Rs. 20 to Rs. 50 and make the right diagnosis (it was Rs. 5-Rs. 10 , Ten years ago). In India, you get to know the "Kairasi" Doctors by word of mouth and this will help you get to the right doctor's. DOctors in Apollo's / Famous hospitals often make wrong diagnosis or stretch the treatment to suck money from you (a very common complaint these days)
OTOH, Medical system in Canada is almost at the point of saturation that you canot get appointments to good doctors.
Also i donot know if you have heard this, but recently in 680 news, there was a report saying that in 2007 or so , Ontario will have to spend 1/2 its budget on healthcare and may be around 2020 or so , healthcare will take the province to bankruptcy. So IMO, I would not even think of spending my senior life in Canada.
just my personal views

TK, in Delhi 3 years ago, most family doctors were charging around Rs 80-100 for consultation. Specialists were charging close to Rs 300 per visit. I do not know current rates. Add cost of medication to that and depending on severity cost of lab tests, x-rays, CT/MRI. Even simple illnesses run into couple of thousand rupees. This may or may not be much depending on what you earn in India (assuming one is living in India). Also depends if your employer reimburses you for medical expenses and what percentage.
I have seen families in India where medical complications requiring interventional procedures, etc., have taken away almost their whole life savings.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Also you can try out this in Canada (We had tried it out for genuine reasons). Go to 4 or 5 doctors in your neighbourhood and all the four or five will give you different diagnosis. We had to pull our hair to conclude which diagnosis out of the 7 or 8 doc's that we visited was true.
