Yesterday, my son had a fall and dislocated a wrist bone. He was in too much pain and I had to rush to the government hospital medical emergency for treatment. Being Gulf the medical services is not so busy like the other big cities and the doctors attended to him immediately. This made me wonder how is it in TO and Vancouver. Are the emergency services very busy and your turn comes maybe after 1, 2 or 3 hours. Being a mother of two kids (boys) I would really like to know how does it work there in case of emergencies.

some time i wonder why you are thinking so much about security or health care. i understand your concern about your kids and appreciate that. but be positive . what is written in our destiny will happen.
anything untoward can be happen in otherwise a very safe enviornment.

You just made me realize that I am getting super worried about small things. Maybe staying in Gulf in this relaxed environment made me forget that I am originally from Mumbai where things use to happened to us almost everyday.

I think it is super normal to be like what you are,specially when you have your kid breaking something.

About emergency services I think its pretty quick. I was in a multi car collision (4 cars involved) and the cops and paramedics came within 5-8 minutes at the most. Although the paramedic who checked me for my bruises and slightly sprained neck from the whiplash told me it will take a while in the hospital for someone to attend to me suggested if it wasnt so bad I should just go to my own doctor and it being a late sunday night I had to go to work the next morning and could not afford to lose a day becuase i had just joined in and my injuries were not that bad.

Also my uncle cut his finger at work and he had to wait in emergency for about 5 hours. So go figure.

Medical services are both very fast and very slow in Canada. I had a tragedy averted because of the fast service provided by a local hospital. In this case, and many life threatening cases, the service is fast, professional and thorough. However, there are documented cases where it takes a couple of hours before you see a doctor.

Most patients and caregivers disregard the Triage portion of the visit. They are focused on seeing a doctor. But the Triage is the one that sets priority in the Emergency. I am not advocating lying to the nurse, but do give a broader and more complete picture of the symptoms.

Ice cream chill out. The medical system here is ok. If your kid broke his hand belive me in an emmergeny room he would get treatment and would not have to wait.
the system can be fast or slow depending on how bad the illness is.
one thing though before coming to canada, please try to complete all dental work and get a full physical done. also carry some of the medication that you may require as this will save you some money initially.

I think I freaked out when I saw my kid crying in pain, well it was just one of those days. His hand is in cast now and they are going to check him again next week to see if he is ok.
