Hi! We are moving to Ottawa, Canada around october this year. I have a month old daughter who will be around 7 months old then. I am really concerned about her adjusting to the extreme weather conditions there. It would be great if parents who have been in Canada in the same situation could share their experiences with me. Also, is it true that medical facilities are not so great there?
Weather will not be a big problem , houses are well heated , dry skin is the only problem , that can be solved by liberal application of skin cream...If you can get your driver's license and a car before the cold really sets in it shouldn't be a problem. (our kid was born in Decembrrrrrr!!!)
Getting a good family doctor takes time here. The good ones don't take new patients , it normally takes a referral from an existing patient to get a good family doctor. Good luck! Emergency care for kids is very good here , some hospitals have walk in pediatric clinics where doctors are good. (Toronto has one at the St. Joseph hospital , I dunno about Ottawa)
Your kid will need to get her shots once she comes here , most of them are free but a couple of them are not covered by OHIP and are very expensive unless your employer has a drug plan!
Welcome to Canada!
