Can somebody tell me, where can I return expired I-94 at Vancouver airport? It is not possible to go upto US immigration at vancouver airport without boarding pass.

I read we can return by mail to some US address, but the process takes very long time.

If returning I-94 is so important, then why it is not written anywhere on I-94 to return it or airlines take it back while passenger is returning. How the holder of I-94 is supposed to know that it should be returned.

I don't suggest anyone to do this but this is what I do.
I did return I-94 couple of times in the beginning but then it becomes annoying activity since I travel very often.
I don't bother myself to return my I-94 because I don't know if I will be travelling back to States before it's expiry time. I keep it with my passport and tear it appart & throw in the garbege when ever it expires.
If they find expired I 94 in your passport at the time of entry, certainly you will be in some trouble.
As long as they don't find the expired I-94 they never gave any trouble to me.

Go to arrival area on Terminal 3 (I think this should be at other terminals as well). There is a customs office there, its approximately in the middle of the terminal. Its a windowless office, you have to hit the buzzer outside on the speakerbox and tell the customs officer that you're there to return your I-94. They'll open the door and let you in and take your I-94.

Does not take more than 5 minutes to return it.

Are you there?

You won't be in any 'trouble' if you carry appropriate evidence with you to show that you left the US prior to the expiry of the I-94.

And what can be that evidence ???? For example ??
I know a group of my family members who kept the expired I-94 in the passport at the time of entry and they had to face 2 hours interview... Normally they don't take such long. But finally they got entry and they were warned not to do so in future.

BL,

Why Canadian customs office will take your old US I-94. What they do with your I-94.

I have no idea, how can I return it at the Vancouver airport, as going to US immigration in not possible.

1. Proof that you left the US before the expiry of the I-94. If you left by air, that could be your boarding pass, or your (e-)ticket.

2. Proof that you have been in Canada since the expiry of your I-94. That could be a pay stub from your employer or a credit card bill (with your credit card number blacked out) that shows expenses that have been incurred in Canada since the date of expiry if the I-94, that would provide evidence to indicate that you were in Canada.

Draft a cover letter explaining why the I-94 remained in your possession (either 'in error' or 'because it was a multiple entry I-94, you anticipated another visit to the US, and that visit did not materialize') and 'apologizing for any inconvenience caused'.

You are always going to be far better off being upfront in such cases rather than 'tearing the I-94 and putting it into the trash'.
