Hi,,

I am just a bit curious.. I had 1997 toyota carolla and had g2licensce in year2002. I live in Etobicoke.. But unfortunately i had a cliam of 3500 due to my car skidded to pillar in parking area. I had full coverage but rcvd discount of engineering association so it came to 250per month. I wonder how much it will increase in Jan 2004 on my policy renewal...
Any advice/help welcome..

Some advice:

1. In future drive carefully, not only on the roads but also in parking lots.
2. To learn how to handle car in snow, go to an empty but big parking lot after snow and try to put brakes suddenly while driving. It will give you a hang of what can happen when your car skids and how you might be able to handle it - though normally you cannot do much about it physically, but are better prepared mentally.
3. Check your mail regularly - if the renewal is due in January, the notice for renewal with new premium rate must have reached you in December.
4. Curiosity kills the cat - don't wait curiously but call up your insurance company and ask them what is the renewal premium. If they have increased it, try shopping around.
6. As far as possible, try avoiding such claims where there is no damage to anyone else besides you. The repair might look big at that moment, but the increase in premium will more than overcome it in next two years.
7. Try to keep a higher deductable - it will save you premium more than your loss on deductable in the long run.

Your thinking that your call will alert them is wrong!

If you go to an insurance agent's office, you will find they work very mechanically. They only know how to use the computer by inputting your information (in this case it would be only your name and your policy no). Rest of the things will automatically come up as output. They will read out what they see on the screen. And if you call them five days later they will not even remember having talked to you earlier.

Take my advice, call them now and find out, so that you have time to shop around. And if I am not wrong, I read somewhere that there has been a freeze in insurance hikes for 90 days starting January. So whatever has been increased cannot be increased futher.

Whoever gave you the idea that I am an engineer? Mistri yes - if something does not work in my house, I throw it on the ground, and usually it starts working again - but in no way an engineer! My god, in my Higher secondary exam I got less marks in Mathematics than in Hindi which I just filled up in the form as an additional subject (it was not taught in my school!)
