Hi,

I am a G driver with 4 years of driving experience, never had a ticket or violation, have the safe driving certificate too, and I drive only for pleasure. I am paying about $2,154 per year ($180 per month) in auto insurance.

When I called my insurance company about the rates and rates I am getting from other companies, the call center agent told me that I can reduce my insurance cost to $1,882 per year or $162 per month, if I reduced my mandatory coverage to the province minimum and disability coverage. She also told me that I should remove the disability coverage from plan as my work plan covers me quite well.

I am not sure if her advice is biased and would like to get some impartial advice.

1. Is my current insurance plan reasonable?

2. Is it a good idea to reduce the mandatory coverage to the province standard?

3. What is a good thumb rule in terms of mandatory coverage?

Thank you.

My take would be that $ 180 a month is quite a reasonable amount and that you should continue as it is.
Province sets the bare min. standards.
If you have home insurance or life insurance, see if your coverage duplicates any of the above and then revisit your current coverage.
Peace

You are in India and based on past experience you are replying to posts. Things could have changed. You could be passing on wrong information (unintentionally)

Actually 180$seems to be reasonable inGTA, as i am having 14yrs of experience with the same insurance company (state farm) and paying 160/month with no tickets so far.
Though this is ridicules, but did not find another option other than moving out of GTA.

TK is right, as thingshave not changed since he left, as a matter of fact there is an increase in insurance recently

Desi # 1,
Just to clear the air.
Though I am in India, every day I spend 1 hour reading Toronto start.
I frequently visit redflag deals,CD, newstalk 1010, 680 news etc.. and so I am pretty much update about Canada.
People in Canada are so engrossed in their work and drinks in the evening that they donot know what is going on in their backyard.
Peace

You do not become a professor by just reading or keeping upto date on newspaper.

Enjoy life and do not peep into someones yard is what Canadians do.

In fact I now have more time to research about Canada now being in India.
In Canada, the natives did not give me a chance to think. Then it is up to you to interpert.
If you have not seen the Tor star yet, then please see it. It says that Rob ford approval is at 37 % and that Hazel's rating is at 78 % or so. How many Canadians in Canada know that?
Peace
