Dear All,

I brought my Indian PC (CPU only) in Canada. I checked the powerpack specification before switching on. It was 115 - 240 input voltage. So I switched on, but PC is not getting on. The power light just come for one second and goes off.

I thought this may be because of pwoer pack is not matching., so I went for purchasing a new power pack. In the shop I saw the specification on new one, I came to know that it is same as per my Indian power pack. I did not purchase the new power pack.

I need soulution what is wrong and how can I rectify it.

There are quite a few computer repair shops ( chinese or desi) who can charge much less and possibly fix it.

But these days the brand new laptops with almost all frills are available at about 1000 Dollars.... carrying it all the way from india might not be worthy.


Good desktops from DELL , eMachines start from as low as 500+ with monitor, printer.. 1 yr warranty etc

I would take it to someone who can physically look at it rather than trying to get an answer on this forum. My first impulse is to distrust what is written on the powerpak, but then also the voltage over here is at 110v and your powerpack's lowest rating is 115V. Not sure if 5V would make that much of a difference. As I said before, take it to some store or friend who is better qualified to answer this.

Sometimes there is a switch on the system to switch between 115 and 230 volts, check if the switch exists and if yes switch it to 115V
