Hi, I got it in Plain Paper.
Official Document Services 'certifies' that the Notary is indeed a Legitimate Notary Public. They check a list of Notaries registered with the Government of Ontario. Thats all it does. it takes 15-20 min max at their office in Toronto-Dtn.
Otherwise, in India - this can create problems (i cannot recall the exact name - the same certification is called differently in India and is very important)
Regards

Your reply will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

amarakbaranthony:

In Canada it needs to be done on a plain paper. There is no stamp paper system.

The system that is currently in operation there in India is very sophisticated. Considering that I can quote that we are in the primitive stages here in Canada.

So, I will provide you with the local Ontario POA, just to give you an idea what it involves here in Ontario, Canada. Please save that for future.

If you are getting it done in India first, since the person you are providing the POA has to attest the document also, hence get it started at that end earnestly and for that you will have to meet with a stamp paper vendor. They will have the local format that is entirely different to the ones here. Get TWO such copies generated and attested there in front of the registrar or a Notary and then courier it to your home address here in Canada.

I picked Vancouver this time.

It is for Power Of Attorney (POA) attestation What documents you need to carry: *** In originals (along with one photocopy of each document listed below; Embassy will keep it for their records)
- Passport - Photocopy of all front and back 6 pages along with all non-blank pages in between
-Address proof in Canada, such as a Driving License
- Original Visa approval notice (e.g. work permits, student visas, family visas)
- Two sets of POA, printed one side of the plain paper (stamp paper not required), page size A4 or legal is ok
- **Copy of recent bank statement, salary slips etc. (additional proofs, in case required) - No Cash.. charges for ONE POA is $23 (check Indian Embassy requirements in Canada.) no restrictions on number of pages ***

Some important things to remember for POA
- Do not sign your name in any document against your name on POA, you will have sign before an officer at the Embassy
- Affix Indian passport size photograph near your name on POA (where you are going to sign) (on both copies of POA) 2" x 2"
- Check dates, names, addresses and other contents of POA for any obvious mistakes, typos etc.
- You will have to take two witnesses' signatures on POA, the witness can be residents or citizen of Canada who are above the age of 21years and has a permanent address here in Canada.
- Witnesses need NOT be present at the Embassy at the time of attestation
- The attestation by the Embassy is valid for 30 days only (at least in some states like, state Maharashtra, INDIA), so you will have to notarize it or get it registered in the Indian Registrar's office before it becomes invalid. Some precautions:
- Carry stationery items like glue, pens, staplers etc.
- Carry extra photocopies, passport size photos
- Carry a USB drive which has POA draft copied in it, so that you can go to some UPS, or the FedEX or library nearby to edit and reprint, in case it is required.
- E-mail POA draft to your email address, for the same purpose
- Office operation starts at 9.15, and there is a token system in place, so its first-in and you get the first service, basis.
- Try to get there early before 10am or there about and the chances are that you will have to come the next day to collect your POA submission.
- If you are doing the same for two or more persons (residing in Canada), and they want to give POA to someone in India, all of those who needs such a POA must be present at the time of attestation with all of the above original documents and its photocopies, plus the Passport pictures of theirs while getting their POA's.

How do they operate: The Misc services are available in the Office of the Embassy in Toronto. When you enter there, the security officer will give you a token number. Once your number comes up as a display on the sign board above, you will be asked to go to a window where a person will validate your original documents, match the names, address and other essential information with POA content and ask you to sign at the location where your printed name appears on the POA. Then you will be asked to go to adjacent room, where at a window you will have to submit ORIGINAL passport and TWO copies of POA to an officer and pay the service charges in a format accepted by them, (NO CASH )(1 POA = $23) (Remember to collect receipt for it, which is later on gets used as a reference when you return to collect your passport and POA). The officer will check a few things like, photos are glued properly, your signatures are there on POA, also on both the copies of POA, and they match and you have all required documents (photocopies) attached etc., The Officer will then ask you to come back after 12noon (in a worse case next day 12noon if processed late). You cannot stay in Embassy so you will have to go out and explore places nearby. Come back to the Embassy 15mins earlier than the given time and look out for a call from them with your name. The Officer will call your name (and do expect to hear some funny sounding versions of your names) and you will be handed over your original passport and POA after verifying your receipt. Ensure no page of the passport are missing or torn due to rough handling and POA has the Embassy stamp on all the pages & photograph and an officer's signature with a stamp on last page of POA. You are free to go! With a proper preparation, a visit to Indian Embassy, can be a nice visit and a successful one without any unwanted surprises.

I came to know that they might accept cash also today.

Have a good one. fh.
