It is tough time for people in Tamil Nadu, 8 hours of power cuts every day crippling every day life.
------------------------------------------------------------
Almost the entire Tamil Nadu, barring capital Chennai, is facing an unprecedented power cut of eight to nine hours every day. People, farmers in particular, are protesting.
While the immediate reason for the deterioration in the power scenario is heavy purchase by other southern states and a sudden outage at North Chennai Thermal Power Station (NCTPS), a senior TANGEDCO official said projects in the state were simply not being able to meet the demand of about 11,500 MW.

I may sound big negative on this but it is the fact.
My relatives running industry are at verge of dismantling their business as they see no scope in near future, and they think it is impossible to stay put for more than two years before ruining their life once for all. Even in Chennai, your A/C machine often bails out as it can't get adequate power to run it, I see people using some equipments to suck the power.
The multiplication of A/C units, cheaper electricity for urban middle class dwellers, farmer's abuse of electricity, free electricity (Kudisaikku vilakku etruvom something like that where in place of one light, power is abused to have whole house illuminated and etc., ) are the prime reason for this issue. 25 years back, the A/C machines weren't common. Unless people get used to adjust themselves according to weather, the trouble is to follow. I see many back home running A/C even in December, was a very disheartening to see but can't tell them anything really.
As the summer is in its offings, we should start thinking about the measures to conserve the energy here too to save the monthly bills and save the nation running into power deficiency.

In the last 10 years people have been migrating from all over the country towards Chennai and its suburbs. What were quite villages have been replaced by dozens of high rise condos and 1000s of dwelling units. Anyone making cursory travel along the rail track or GST road between Tambaram and Chengelpet can see this. Same is the story along OMR, Thiruporur direction and on the Sriperumpudur, Bangalore route. This has happened after 2006 and successive governments were caught napping.

I recently met a person from from Trichy , TN (Tier 2 city).
He told me that Trichy gets 8 hours power cut a day. The cuts come in 4 slabs of 2 hours each. 2 of the slabs are at night. Trichy is such a hot place that it is impossible to live without Fan. I used to stay in Trichy in the 80’s where power cut was not more than 1 hour a week and even at that time, I used to hate Trichy due to the power cut.
However, TN is one of the most industrialised states of India and we donot have any water in this region (hydro electric). Chennai must be given priority as it is the bread and butter of the state.
In the village that my parents reside in, we have 1 hour power cut a day.
Hope JJ starts the nuclear power plant in the state and we will soon be a power supplier to other states nearby.
I was to move to TN in October 2012. Due to these kind of factors , I will move to b’lore.
Peace

8 to 10 hour power cuts continues in rest of Tamil Nadu except Chennai. Now they are planning to increase power cuts in Chennai from 2 hours to 4 hours.

Karnataka is going to stop sharing Cauvery water with TN. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-03-26/india/31239370_1_cauvery-river-water-tamil-nadu-interests-of-karnataka-farmers
If this continues, TN will become no power, no water state soon. CAG reports says capacity addition of 3977 MW was required and they added just 290 MW.
All the freebies (bribing the public) given by previous and present government like TV, fan, mixer/grinder are of no use since there is no electricity to run them.

True Raj.
I am thankful to God that I am not living in the cursed tamil Nadu. Only the road and infrastructure was good, the last time I visited. The busstands of Tamil Nadu is like pearson airport.
People say that TN does not have any natural resources like water (and hence electricity) but they have decided to be a highly industrialised state without both the required needs.
TN will go down soon like the atlantis and I would encourage all the people of TN to apply for Canadian immigration and move to Canada, where Water and electricity is available in plenty. I am personally helping dozens to apply to immigration and leave the cursed land.
To top it all, I heard that electricity rates in TN have been increased by 37% recently but it is still one of the lowest power tarriff's in India. Count that on politics and increasing the politician vote bank.
Peace
