Hello Scarborough dwellers and others,
- Any area in Scarborough that is good for a family with 5 year old to look for ? (Looking to buy a 3 bedroom detached home really)
- Areas in Scarborough with easy commute to Downtown including TTC, GO.
- Any specific area to avoid in Scarborough.
Thanks for your time and response..

Can you be more specific ?
Are you asking for places to rent or buy ?
What kind of housing ? Detached, Semi, Townhouse, Hi-rise Condo, Hi-rise Apartment ? How new should the place be.
Most of the places in Scarborough are not good, there are only few places which are safe. Few blocks around Scarborough Town Center are good. There are couple of condo's on Corporate Drive that you can check. You get a bus to go the Scarborough Rapid Transits last stop, which is McCowan or you can take a quick 5 min walk. This ride should put you in downtown in 30 to 40 min.
My bad, I should comprehended it a bit more..
I am looking for a 3 bedroom, detached (linked) home to buy. I have got my friends around Scarborough( I can't really ask them how good their area is and dispute).
Thanks for your suggestion about the Condo, Unfortunately they do not suit me..

I used to live in the Cliff side (Kingston Road/Midland-Kenney) area of Scarborough and that was a nice area. The Scarborough Go station is also located in that area. Very quite neighbourhood and house prices are also good.
The areas around Markhan/Ellesmere are also good but disputable. There are lots of immigrants. The woburn highschool is a very good school. I know many families moved to that area just because of this school.
Avoid anything around Markham/Eglinton and the Malvern area.
The traffic on 401 is quite heavy in the morning (while going to west) and in the evening it is worst (while coming back).
So you will need to think those points as well.
Scarborough is a hugh area (I guess 30% of Toronto), so you will see mixed opinions from people.

Hi JRF,
If you want to commute to downtown by public transit, then I would suggest any area near kennedy subway, Go Train station is right there to reach Union station, in addition to TTC subway. On the other hand, in scar. towncentre, you have Go bus terminal (not a Go train station).
