As far Dundas/Hwy10(Hurantario) is concerned, you got to pay for Mississauga transit + Subway Train to go to Downtown (it takes time to reach Subway station).
Other option is to take a GO Train, the deal here is its expensive and the GO Train ends in Union Station is Downtown. If you need to go else where in Downtown you got to buy the TTC pass or ticket which may again be expensive (3 tickets one way, huh!!!)..

Also you may consider Don Mills / Sheppered area, Since I landed in Mississauga and then moved to etobicoke to share my friends apt for a short time, Im pretty much glued to the West of Toronto, otherwise I would've considered other places too..

Within Downtown, you pretty much rely on the TTC bus / subway (same ticket) to commute which is pertty good. If you drive, you got to pay for the Parking and it ususally has 6PM limitation.........

Yeah being new, my observations are considerably limited...

I lived in that area for 7 years. Even now I'm not too far from there. If your child goes to a Elemantary school - Forest Manor PS in the S/E corner (Parkway Forest/Forest Manor) is very good. The area has a lot of rental buildings. The Don Mills subway station is right there. A lot of new immigrants tend to move in the neighbourhood, 'cause of the proximity to public transit.

If you need more info PM me and we can chat.

Check out 2350 and 2360 Dundas Street West. It is exactly opposite Dundas West subway station. You will also have access to street cars and buses from here.

a. Ease in commuting. You have subway/buses/street cars literaly at your doorstep.

b. Grocery Stores. PriceChopper within 1 minute walking distance. Loblaws and Zellers within 3-5 minutes walking distance.

c. Public Services like libraries or free Internet / Job Searching . Library which has free internet is 15-20 minutes walking distance on 228 Roncesvalles Ave. You can even take the 504 street car from Dundas West subway station to reach the library.

d. Banks There is a CIBC bank in the plaza just below 2350 Dundas Street West. Plaza also has a walkin doctors clinic, pharmacy, dentist, cleaners, dollar store, video library etc.

rent is around $900 for a 1 bedroom apt

Hi!
I would not recommend this area. It is a shady area of town. Lot of drug addicts/ poverty people live in this area. May be the apartments are good but i would definitely not recommend the neighbhourhood.
Though i donot know about the schools in this area, i am sure that it will be harbouring students with violent character.
Just my views upon having been of and on associated with that neighbouhood for 3 years
