Any ideas how to get a good exchange rate in converting our US Dollars to Canadian.. The TD Bank rate (where I've got the USD account), doesn't provide a good rate....

Thanks for the information. The customer service rep is not available currently to answer the questions.

Do you think xp could help even if I have already deposited ( not as CAD though) in a canadian bank or I shouldn't have brought the money into the country.

XE does exactly what u are looking for.

U would need to register with them. They are located somewhere in U.S.
They would ask for few documents [ which are listed on their website] and would give u a call to verify.

U can then ask them to link ur U.S and CAD accounts in Canada and then do a trade like scenario on their website. The rates fluctuate based on market rates and though they charge commission [ which is why u would not get the posted rate on their website] , it is still way better that any local banks here in Canada.

To give an example :

Today's posted rate on XE is 1.166.
If u are new to them, they charge a higher commission than a regular user of XE. After commision, let's say ur actual rate with XE would be 1.156.

TD would give u 1.14 or lower today.

All these rates would depend on ur amounts to be converted as well.
For smaller amounts, u may not see a big difference.
