Hi all,

I am looking for the best priced Amul desi ghee in or around the GTA.
Most grocery stores sell the 1 litre jar for $10.99 or $12.99.
There are rare sales when it is sometimes $8.99.

Does anyone know of a grocery where it sells lower than this, or at least $8.99 consistently?

Hello Friends;

Try the innovative way, as we did. Butter (unsalted) is sometime on sale 2.99 per Ib. The way of making ghee from this butter is simple and have been discussed earlier in CD at length. In about say $ 10. you get about 1.3 kg of ghee plus the left over Khoya thing is also tasty.
But my another suggestion is ,"Avoid Desi Ghee". This is just another wrong notion that Desi Ghee is good for our body. It is like consuming direct fat and lot of it.

There is some term called saturated fat and unsaturated fat and one more trans fat.
Not all fat is bad. excess intake is bad. stopping completely will have problems in the knee joints and it cannot be repaired. There are a lot site if you google it and look for unbiased version of information. It is also very good for the pregnant women.

we always used unsaturated butter and heat it to make Ghee. Buy several of packs and keep it in the freezer.

Thanks for the replies.
I appreciate the suggestion for making ghee out of butter, however, that won't work for me.
It's very hard to remove all the milk solids that way at home - I find Amul ghee very pure in that regard.

If someone purchases Amul on a regular basis, can you please quote the price and where you purchase from.

Thanks.

Ok, so you determined to use Amul Ghee. Why don't you call grocery stores to find out price of it? We have a large list of stores in our yellow-pages section.

I have found that Scarborough has cheapest prices.

Why wasting time and energy/gas just for saving $2 or $3.00, just go and buy any grocery store. Why not do some constructive or fun thing in that time or spend good time with family?

Shopping could be fun activity for some. It can involve entire family. Very subjective matter.
