I was listening to the radio this morning (580 AM) on the way to office. The host, Lowe Green, was discussing the "rumoured proposal" of the liberal govt to do away with the faith based schools after the elections, if they win. He was coming heavily on the rumour that catholic school board would be done away with replaced by a huge public school board system across the province. Whether this is going to happen or not, certainly this is going to start a big discussion among the catholic parents.

Just curious. Are there any madarasas in the province? If so, are they funded by the province?

Private schools (schools boards) are allowed by law to exist. If anything the provincial government can TRY to stop funding the Catholic School board. Unfortunately the problem will be the law. Right now they are almost guaranteed funding by a law that puts them (catholic schools) on the same level as public schools. Second problem will be sorting the assets. Who actually owns the buildings, desks etc? Finally, un-doing the pension plans which are shared by by both boards.

Well, then there is the John Tory plan to fund education boards for other faith based education systems like Jewish. The madarasas question was a good one. I'd like to know the answer too.

This is unlikely and impossible by a next liberal Govt. especially when they will with fewer seats. That most likely is fear mongering by conservatives.
