Sitting on the HOT SEAT and answering very delicate questions in front of camera is not a joke. It is easy for KARAN THAPAR to sit in the studio with suit and tie and frame very 'intelligent' questions from the comfort of his AC office. I am sure if MODI wants he can sit on the other side of the interview table and ask much more intelligent questions to KT regarding his activities. If the people of gujarat feel that Modi has done the right thing in those circumstances (by voting him to power twice after that), I believe in a Democracy, no one else has the right to ask any further questions to the CM on that subject. For the legal aspects of his action, there are enough court cases running against his administration to seek all the answers.

Also this video was uploaded in October 2007, 2 months before the latest Gujarat elections, and we all have seen the results - which in itself answers KT's bold questions.

Disclaimer: I am in no way linked to N. Modi or even his supporter, but of late feel that he is being targeted by media (especially the English) unfairly to gain some 'hidden' leverage.

Finally, the Godhra incidence was no FUN, so an interview based on that incidence cannot be FUNNY at all.

Peace to all.

Hiren

Questions could have been 'Framed' but answers could have easily flown out if the conscience was clear. He claims to be a great orator then why was he just mumbling/fumbling /twisting words and at last just WALKED OUT!!!
A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine. The same happened in Gujrat. Democracy is THE MOST UNFAIR type of rule.
Also Gujrat is a PART OF INDIA so every INDIAN has a RIGHT to put forth questions and demand answers for all brutal killings of fellow INDIANS anywhere in INDIA.

I absolutely agree that it was not FUN ask all those families (HIndu or Muslim) who have lost their dear ones ! but when the justice is not served and politicians are only interested in taking leverage out of such incidents by instigating common man ... is it unjust to seek a little relief and happiness in watching these politicians being grilled?

And what is your idea of the "Most fair type of rule"?

Irony is that no form of ruling is perfect !
I am no expert on politics but like to see things from a practical perspective.
As far as i have read about Democracy ..this is certanly not was it may have been meant to be. it is by far the most expensive form of government.

Aristotel said there are 3 forms of Rulings
one (mon-archy), a few (olig-archy, arist-ocracy), or many (dem-ocracy).
Tyranny, is monarchy exercising the rule of a master over the political society; oligarchy is when men of property have the government in their hands; democracy, the opposite, when the indigent, and not the men of property, are the rulers.
Now if you look at the present system ( our Democracy)...isnt it aform of ruling where our representatives strive to be either of the first two forms!

I beleive it has lost its real meaning and is just a mockery of the word.
Lets be more open minded and see things the way they are not the way they are portrayed.Be it Modi or anyone else ..these people are not Gods so lets not get offended by the critisism thrown at them. We chose them so we have all the right to openly crtitise their wrongs and appreciate their rights(good things that they do) coz this why they are where they are.
Winston Churchill has said:
"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

"Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried."

Does anyone hear me?

The point precisely Modi has been critised to death ..... whenever you hear about Modi , the next sentence is about the the riots ..... Look at Karan Thapar he starts of with the same topic , even though just last month the media flogged this topic to death during the elections .... it is time to move on ...
Since you are fond of what Churchill says here is another gem from him "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject"Cheers

Moving on is good and change is a must but if u change just because you are tired of looking for answers /apologies from the ones who may have caused it..ithink that just reflects the 'Givig up' and 'weak ' attitude towards life. then noone should be blamed if similar things happen again and again and again coz we will eventually forgive and forget and 'Move on'.
You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.
If the topic was beaten to death then lets hope that a constant reminder brings in some change for good. Change does not mean just to ignore and forgive rather it should be a step taken for the betterment after learning and analysing what went wrong and what we should do to prevent it from happening again.
Alas families who lost their loved ones will never be able to overcome these incidents and they have for sure not liked the change in their lives!
