It makes perfect sense to pay for an experienced Home inspector for the inspection of the house and know the things (whatever is possible ) about the house before you move in .
This has 2 advantages
1) You will know the true condition of the house
2) If the inspector does find something, get the seller to repair them or reduce the selling price.
If and when you sell ,the buyer is going to get an inspector and you do not want to be surprised by what he finds in the house. Also paying $300 is worth paying for the peace of mind in moving to a house which is worth $300K or more.
Trust me you will be thankful in the long run ...
