Hello!

We will be moving soon to Toronto on PR visa. We need some help from you experts before starting our journey to new country.

(1) My husband is principle applicant and he worked in IT but now he is not interested and wants to start from fresh in management or retail field. What is your suggestion for him ... is his decision correct ... what is hot computer requirement in job market.

(2) I have done high school and basic multimedia course in India ... what is scope for me in this field... Pls. suggest.

(3) We don't have Birth certificate as we were born in house and our parents have not registered birth. We have our high school certificate on which Date of birth is written and we always used it. Is birth certificate Important.... We went to municipal office but they said NO and some agent told me Rs 7000/- for one. IS BIRTH CERTIFICATE VERY MUCH IMPORTANT?

(4) As we don't have job offer now and we want rented apartment in mississuage area, we are looking for month to month lease as we may have to leave other place if we get job in other city, Pls. provide us link and without job will they rent us apartment. Pls. provide us good apartment in the range of 800 -1000.

(5) We have got apartment in India which is rented, will I have to declare it in Canada at the time of landing. We don't want to sell it in Future also.

(6) How to make list of those things which we are carrying now (on plain paper or some official form), Pls. send me one sample. How many months is given for goods to follow?

(6) After landing and completing PR, SIN, BANK A/C, Child benefit, how soon can we return in India back. Is there any time limit.

(7) What is minimum monthly amount required to survive as we are renting $ apartment.

(8) How easy is to get survival jobs like store job, gas station, assistant, call center etc and how much we can earn from these types of jobs?

(9) We need to bring nearly $ 16000/- we have account in icicibank from where we have to withdraw amount. so, which is best method (dd, travelers cheque or cash) to bring in money. and which is best bank to open account in canada.

I shall be highly thankful to you all for helping me in settling in new country.

NO CLUE ABOUT THIS ONE

(2) I have done high school and basic multimedia course in India ... what is scope for me in this field... Pls. suggest.

BASICALLY HERE ONE CAN TAKE ON ANY FIELD

(3) We don't have Birth certificate as we were born in house and our parents have not registered birth. We have our high school certificate on which Date of birth is written and we always used it. Is birth certificate Important.... We went to municipal office but they said NO and some agent told me Rs 7000/- for one. IS BIRTH CERTIFICATE VERY MUCH IMPORTANT?

NOT REQUIRED, PASSPORT IS GOOD AS PROOF OF BIRTH

(4) As we don't have job offer now and we want rented apartment in mississuage area, we are looking for month to month lease as we may have to leave other place if we get job in other city, Pls. provide us link and without job will they rent us apartment. TORONTO IS EXPENSIVE FOR RENT

(5) We have got apartment in India which is rented, will I have to declare it in Canada at the time of landing. We don't want to sell it in Future also.

LEGALLY YES, OTHERWISE NOT REQUIRED (DON'T DECLARE)

(6) How to make list of those things which we are carrying now (on plain paper or some official form), Pls. send me one sample. How many months is given for goods to follow?

NOT REQD., ONLY YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE PACKED, AS CUSTOMS WILL ASK 'DID U PACK EVERYTHING ON YOUR OWN, AND IF BAGGEGE WAS EVER LEFT UNATTENDED'

(6) After landing and completing PR, SIN, BANK A/C, Child benefit, how soon can we return in India back. Is there any time limit.

PR SHOULD BE RECD BEFORE LANDING
SIN WILL BE GIVEN IMMEDIATELY, BUT YOU NEED SOME ADDRESS WHERE THE CARD WILL BE SENT TO (IN YOUR CITY IN CANADA)
BANK A/C SAME DAY
CHLD BENEFIT CAN BE C;AIMED ONLY AFTER FILING TAX FOR A YEAR
SO YOU CAN FLY BACK WITHIN DAYS

(7) What is minimum monthly amount required to survive as we are renting $ apartment.

DEPENDS UPON CITY/FAMILY SIZE ONE MONTH DEPOSIT IS REQD TOO

(8) How easy is to get survival jobs like store job, gas station, assistant, call center etc and how much we can earn from these types of jobs?

IF YOU COME TO ALBERTA, WITHIN DAYS

I shall be highly thankful to you all for helping me in settling in new country.

My recco. if you have no reason to go to Toronto, try Alberta (calgary.edmonton) lot of jobs here, also medical card is issued rightaway (but has a 44$/month per person, kids exempt)
In toronto you won't get health card till 90 days.
If you move to Saskatchewan, you don't have to pay for health card, not sure of job scene, but am sure it isn't bad, also one more adv of moving to SK is within one year of stay one can apply for family members PR.

On your PR you have to spend 2 of the first 5 years ( i could be wrong) but this info will be available in some forum,

Weather is bad in Saskatchewan, Alberta but everyone gets used to it!!

ekvivek, what are the many jobs/opportunities in Alberta that you mention? I know that you have mentioned below that here "one can take on any field"?

It is encouraging to see such optimistic replies to newcomers' queries though I am not sure how accurate your assessment is. If the Alberta market "for taking on any field" is so encouraging, I would like to hear about it too... please share.

I appreciate your effort but if you are not aware of a few things do no post. Your reply is very misleading to newcomers.

4) You say Toronto is expensive for rent. And further down you suggest go to Alberta. Have you checked rents in Alberta? Are they lower than Toronto?

6) It is always better to prepare two lists. One list of things you are carrying and second list of goods to follow. the original poster can search Charcha for enough info on this.

6) A bunch of bullshit answers.

Where can you get your PR before landing? PR takes normally 4 weeks to come to the address you provide during landing.

SIN immediately!!! From where? Did you get yours at the airport? SIN again takes 4 - 5 weeks to be processed.

CCTB can be claimed once you land and you need not wait for the first returns. At the airport they do give a bunch of forms and info on how to claim CCTB and GST rebate.

Well you can fly back within hours of landing!!! Why wait for days? But if that is the intention why bother about bank accounts, SIN, CCTB, etc?

8) Survival jobs in Toronto are easily available too.

Hello Sana

First of all i would like to congratulate you on your arrival to Canada. It is really a good decision to migrate to canada.

Reg your queries i have some information for you which might be helpful for you.

- Dont leave IT it has got lots of opportunities here in Toronto.

- Reg. Accomodation, i would suggest you instead of going for an apartment, firstly you can go for a sharing accomodation in Mississauga where the rent is reasonable, you get cheap ones also but again you need to see the locality. Approx rent should be between $450 - $600 per person, and there are many who provide meals also, so you have less hassels to make meals as you need to do your legal formalities and search for a job also. Main thing you should stay in such a place where you have amenities close by like grocery, clinic, bus station, etc... so where ever you need to go should not be a problem. Once you are settled down you can go for your own apartment.

- Reg things you will be carrying - you should make it like a packing list with the invoice amount in your local currency and CAD (Canadian dollars) and then the total value of the goods including your jewellery. Reg. Jewellery what ever you will be wearing let it be silver or gold you should remove 2 photos of each item, as one you need to get it stamped by the customs in canada airport and other set of photos incase if the customs people ask you to give them so you should have it ready. If you are migrating for good then you will be having goods to follow also, that also packing list and invoice you should carry along with you. What you can do is in 1 paper itself you can mention first goods along with you and then below that you can mention goods to follow.

- Reg. doing all legal formalities i am sure that it will not take longer time for you to finish all these things, once you get your PR card you can go back to your country and reg. SIN no need to wait for it, whose address you will give it will come to their address.

Incase if you need any other information pls feel free to mail be at
