Hi There,
What are the job prospects for a Microsoft Certified Database Admin (MCDBA).IT pro with over 8 years of total experience of which 4 years is international;primarily in middle east.I'll be immigrating to canada in a year. so i'm just doing market research.Any rough guesses on how much time it will take to get a headstart in Toronto or any other province considering i have worked in very large setup's.Will my international experience do any good.
I would like to be working as a DBA once i'm there. Also where's the IT market heading "North" or "South"?
Any inputs will be highly appreciated.
Cheers
prospects are good for your skill.
The IT market in Canada is doing fine and is almost the only one doing very well. Your experience in an international set up is defenitely an asset.
DBA is a good employable skill.
You may get a job in Toronto, Halifax, Montreal, Calgary/ Edmonton and vancouver.
I would say in maximun 3 month you will get employed.
Regarding Salary / savings potential, it is a subjective affair. Depends on what you are coming to Canada for.
More people in the IT field will advise you soon.
All the best.
Peace

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
Thanks Tamilkuravan for your quick and valuable inputs .That's very encouraging.
Hope other CD's especially from IT backround post their reply.
I am in IT and moved from Dubai in 2005.
Perosnally you cannot compare Middle East to Canada. Yes you will find a job but salaries are very low in Canada and then you have Taxes in Canada which are not there in Middle East. DBA's don't make much over here. It depends on how determined you are to move and what are your personal goals.
Thks.
Hi akscanada
What field of IT you are into programmer/sys admin/networks.dba etc.
Can you share your experince if you dont mind? And wht salary can i expect.
I got two friends who are SQL*Server DBA and according to them the MS market is growing considerably. I would generally say the prospects are better.
I believe the pay range is any where from 75K to 90K for an experienced SQL server DBA and you can further negotiate your benefits including Bonus etc..,
