There is another one, I am forgetting it's name, the story goes like this. Om Puri's son dies in Kargil war. He is allotted a Petrol pump, but he has to struggle a lot to build this petrol pump. He is made to go around offices of defence ministry and police stations etc. Police demands hefty sum from this guy to issue a police clearance certificate.
Hi All,
Going thru the forum one one hand is very informative but at time it creates big pot-holes of confusion in my mind. Very truly said under the same topic, that there are more quites on negative experiences thatn that of the possitive ones. I have gone thru the Statistics canada site. as per my interpretation of the information available there, the initial 5 years post landing do take a toll, but the next 5-10 years get immigrants at par to that of canadian borns. Well having said all this... I am still right on the other side of the planet (still in India), would request you all to please help me and people like me to get a clearer picture about life condition of new immigrants there (accross all class of profession).
Thanx

How old are your kids? If in a year or two they have to go to university, then keep delaying it a bit and once you get visa, you'll have about 9/10 months to travel to Canada. Yes it will make sense to send your kids to university here.

It will certainly make sense to send the kids to Univ. here, just keep in mind they need the requisite credits prior to applying. The school board will evaluate your credentials to determine how many credits the child will be eligible for. Another thing to keep in mind is that kids here start the application process in Nov/Dec. By Jan/Feb Universities start sending the acceptance letters for the following year starting in Sept.

Unfortunately, very few of the lucky ones post their positive experience here. It's more the ones that have bitter experience and have the time on hand that post the negative comments
Wouldn't it be really good if we accecpt the realities rather than pointing fingers. Why paint a rosy picture for someone who is eagerly awaiting response from people who have already gone thru the sham of Canadian immigration. OK how many desis you have seen in good positions. Go to any bank, grocery store, post office or any other govt office, how many executives or managers have you seen? Are they representative of their population percentages? Face the truth our skin can never be white.
Here is what the Statistics canada says. Not my words.
Immigrants who had landed since 2001 (or very recent immigrants, those who landed in Canada 5 or less years prior to 2006) had the most difficulty in the labour market in 2006, followed by those who landed between 1996 and 2001.

I think these hardships are no where near to what UPwalas and Biharis are facing in Maharashtra and Assam. I am pretty sure soon it will be no outsiders except Maharashtrians in Maharashtra and only Assamese in Assam.
I would again repeat AGAR JOOTEY HEE KHANEY HAIN TO SONEY KAY KHAO.

Honestly if I could handle India's corruption/Police raj or had had any political connections, I would have rather lived in India. We have a saying AGAR JOOTEY HEE KHANEY HAIN TO SONEY KAY KHAO.

I know of people who have moved there recently (in the last year or so), and are doing well. These are people who moved after living here for around 8-10 years and do not have any high level connections in India. Infact one of them had a 5-year old son who was born here, and he's doing fine there. Personally I disagree that you need political connections to live in India. But that's just me.
I think you would definitely recall the case of film star Sunjay Dutt what happened to him? He was convicted and jailed. He's out, why? Because of his sister. She's an MP from Bombay, she was elected from the same seat which her father held. Political connections are just one of the things I mentioned. Again I'll say face the truth. There isn't much an honest middle class guy can do in India. You need political connections. By any chance did you see the movie Kholsa Ka Ghosla? That is very realistic movie. That is so very true about India. For a middle class guy these kind of issues are the biggest obstacles. At least in Canada you don't have to deal with all this.
Thanks Sudesingh.
Is Xth pass admissible in Universities in Canada for under grad courses, unlike in India where you need XIIth pass?
