What information do I need to apply for an extension of temporary status?
1. Full details of why you want to stay longer;
2. Proof of identity;
3. Proof of current status in Canada;
4. Evidence of how you will support yourself or be supported in Canada and how you will pay for transportation to leave Canada, such as:
* Guarantor’s letter;
* Bank statement indicating name of account holder and account number; or
* Details of how you intend to leave Canada including the date, time and type of transportation.
Proof of funds, for the duration of stay and tuition fees for the number of years of study.
A letter of acceptance from the University and the duration of the course.
Work with this first and then call them and ask for the application kit.

Hi,
I'm on work permit in Canada and landed here in April 2008.
I got admitted into University of Toronto for the fall 2008 in May.I've applied for the student permit on July 9th to Alberta office.
I checked the processing times for the Student permit within Canada and it says it would normally take around 45 days.
I would like to know if any one had received it in less than 45 days.My program starts on August 15th.Also do i need medicals again as I've already done it in March 2008.
If i needed medicals i guess i would have to drop the idea of going to school.I guess it takes around three months.
Can i do something to get the whole thing expedited?
Thank you.

Just an update :I got my study permit today.
Status before :Work permit.
Time line for my approval(Hope it helps somebody in the future to assess the timing, if they apply for study permit within Canada)
Study permit application received Vegreville,AL office :9th July
Received Study Permit: August 19th.
Thats around 40-41 days,which matches almost the same time line given on the CIC website for the processing of study permit applied from within Canada.
I think the time taken for processing of the applications on the CIC website pretty much reflects a close match.
All the best.
Thanks,
-R
