Hi ,
I was a student doing diploma in a community college. unfortunately I was not able to complete it due to 2 courses. I got a job and got HRSDC approved work permit along with it. I'd still like to go back to school, complete those two courses and get my diploma. However the conditions on my work permit tell me that I cannot study in any professional institution. Which means do I apply for a study permit just to do those two courses?
Here's what I saw on the CIC website under exceptions to the study permit section and was wondering if it applies to me:
"Exceptions
In some cases, you do not require a study permit to go to school in Canada.
* If you wish to study in a short-term course or program
You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
Even if you do not need a study permit, it is a good idea to apply for a permit before you come to Canada. If you decide that you want to continue your studies in another program after you complete your short-term course or program, you must apply through a Canadian visa office outside Canada for a study permit if you do not already have one."
I'll be very greatful if someone can answer my questions because when I call the immigration up I get different replies from different agents.
Thank you.
You please continue corresponding with the Community College and see if they will permit you to take the examination to complete the courses and obtain the diploma or the degree that they provide you with.
If the attendance in the course is not mandatory, then, you can complete it without your enrolling for the course. Alternately do a correspondence course, if it will permit you to qualify for it. These are the possibilities that are open to you.
Alternately, ask the employer if they can enroll you in some other course through their apprentice program to get a different diploma or certification. You pay for it if it becomes necessary. After the completion and a stay of two years here you may qualify for a PR application. Rules do change and situations might improve. USA might have similar courses for long distance study. Explore the possibilities too.
I would urge you to contact "CIIP". http://ciip.accc.ca/ and get some help. They are there in India, if that location suits you.
Good Luck.
Hope this helps you a little.
Freddie.
