How do you guys celebrate here in Canada? Me, I've taken some time off, have some family visiting from the states, plan to visit a couple of temples in the area and devour lots of Diwali snacks (Mathias, Fafdas, Ghughras etc...).

Its funny you mentioned Ghughras, it is one of my favourites and my wife (earlier my mom) makes it a point to make them at home every diwali. I havent seen many Desis who like it...

We didn't make them at home this time, got it from a small shop in Brampton and they're execellent!

Happy Diwali (belated) and a wishes for a prosperous Vikram Samwat 2065 to all CDs.

It is after I came to Canada that I realised that it is only Gujarati's who celebrate the 1st day or Kartak (or Kartikeya??) month as new year.

This is the time I miss India the most and go into Swades's SRK mode. For anybody hailing from Bhuj, one knows how it is to be away from "Nakabahar", "Mangala" and "Fatakadas" and then "Gaanthiya Jalebi" at ST. I enjoyed that last year. Hope to enjoy that next year.

So for now, Diwali this year means going to APC temple and devouring whole pack of "Mathia" and "Cholafali" and see desi neighbours enjoying fireworks
