Hello Guys,
In our department it’s decided to have a gift (approx $15) exchange activity. Everyone will be bringing a gift, someone will collect and will put them all to gather and finally everyone will choose one gift from the collection.
Someone suggested a wine bottle but I don’t prefer to take it as a gift because I don’t drink. We have one female member in team of 15.
What would you bring? Any general Dos and DON’Ts for such events from your personal experience? Any gift ideas?
Thanks in adv.
Hi!
We have been doing this for the past 3 years. Our budget is $10, but I always buy it for $20 or so and I buy it in a sale so that I get a big bang for my money.
But we do it a bit differently. We take a chit and we know exactly to whom we will be giving. So we can make the purchase based on what the person that you selected wants (if your name comes up in the chit, we put it back in and take another one).
Recommendations :
Past gifts that were shared are : Shawl, Chopstick, Electronic key chain (with Torch and beeper) 5 band small radio, Laser measuring tape etc...
My suggestion :
Try giving out a gift which has universal appeal. Since it is $10, You may just be able to give soveneirs and nothing else..
1. Try visiting XS Cargo, Circuit City etc... and they have many electroci items on sale like Small Electronic key chain, Automatic thermometer, Electronic clock, Thermometer and humidity meterm etc...
2. Try visiting sale places to get small cute soveneirs, momentoes etc..
Please avoid :
WIne / Alchohol,
Religious items,
Uni Sex items
Gift cards.
Donot Forget :
Donot forget to include a Holiday season card / Christmas card for the receipient. If required to be anonymous, Sign it as "Secret Santa"
Hope this helps

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
My wife had such an event in her office and she bought a Sunbeam coffee maker for 20 dollars (on sale) from Loblaw's. It was liked by everyone.
Also, here I've found ppl gifting expensive wine/ scotch's etc during office events.
Quote:IMO, the wine is a NO-NO.
