I'll say it all depends on personal effort and luck. But definitely this is very tough time for getting Job because of

1) There are not many jobs available due to economy situation
2) There are lot of canadians got laid off and looking for job

If you have good job over there, I'll suggest to wait for atleast next 3 quarters.

Thanks

I won't say that there are no jobs.
Yes, there are few available jobs. Last year if there were 10 jobs (say dot net jobs) opening in any city, then today you'll find only 4 or 3 or even 2 such opening. On top of that you have additional candidates for fewer jobs.

I have not heard any major layoffs in IT sector. May be others can provide additional details. But hiring budgets are tight. But hey, each company needs good peoples. Visit workopolis dot com.

If you have stable job right now, I would suggest proceed with caution. You can come to Canada. But be prepared with plan-B or plan-C. If you have any relatives or close friends, ask them if they can provide any assistance.

As it's very well said, no matter when you come, where you come from, what you come with, you always have to start from the very beginning.

Microsoft is expected to post a quarterly profit that misses its own target and announce thousands of job cuts this week as the global economic slump hurts even the technology industry's biggest players.

Possible Job Cuts

With an eye on reducing costs, Microsoft is widely expected to announce that it will cut jobs, following similar moves by other tech firms, including AT&T [T 25.02 -0.21 (-0.83%) ], Dell [DELL 9.85 -0.42 (-4.09%) ], Motorola [MOT 4.31 -0.23 (-5.07%) ] and Advance Micro Devices [AMD 2.00 -0.29 (-12.66%) ].

"Checks indicate that Microsoft is likely to engage in headcount reductions to the tune of 6,000 to 8,000 employees or 6 percent to 8 percent of its 95,000 workforce," said McAdams Wright Ragen analyst Sid Parakh. "Our checks also revealed some speculation over the potential for a second round of cuts in some groups sometime later in the year."

Other analysts suggest the cost reductions may occur in the next few weeks and could also include more targeted cutbacks and attrition, rather than the big number of layoffs that some have speculated.

Microsoft shares have dropped 41 percent over the past year, while shares in another technology bellwether, IBM [IBM 81.98 -2.94 (-3.46%) ], have lost 16 percent. The S&P 500 Index has dropped 38 percent during the same period.

Please decide keeping in view of above.

Keep well,

Cheers!

My company (IT) has laid off yesterday 20 (out of 200) and closed facility in USA (laid off around 40) and also 6% salary roll back from each North American (Canada/USA) employee.

It looks like next 3 quarter will be tough for Canada. No one knows about his/her job will be there tomorrow or not. It seems to me very hard to find a job in this economy situation and competition with guys who got laid off.

A many thanks to all of you who have put their valuable advice here.
i will do the same way like i will wait for good time to come.

but i have one more issue is like till now we have not the pr card in our hand .there was some problem with our photo to pr card so the cic people asked us to come personally. that why now we had applied for travel document.

we have got the travel visa till 2 nd june 2009.
1. should we do let the travel visa expired and apply for the same nearabt in nov or dec ?
2. will our pr card applying limit will expire ? what will be the expected response from cic office i mean what if they ask for delaying so long?

3. will embassy issue a travel visa again if we apply for it in nov or dec.?

as because of tough financial position we cann't go only for pr card.
