I have been recently laid off from work here and want to know from current uaeites what the job scene is in UAE right now.I feel looking for jobs out here is just as bad so I am planning to go on a visit and apply for jobs there.I have uae market experience in sales/marketing.
Will i be able to find one say within a month ..stretching it will be too expensive as I have to pay for my own acco there.
Any feedback.
Hi,
I am sure by the day is out, you will be inundated with replies. From what I have heard from my friends, many companies are on half strength ie they have sent their staff on long leaves and are working with only the necessary minimum. The big players who usually flaunt their money, are also very cautious in hiring people. The hotel and tourism industry is in shambles and therefore all peripheral job markets are also affected. Anyway 01 month is too short a time, unless you have really good contacts not forgetting you can do max 01 or 2 meetings a day - if they are in dubai (due to traffic /etc).
Gulf news had an article on yesterday saying that 20,000 blue collar workers have lost their jobs. Foreign investment is very minimal.
The other side is that there may be bosses who want to fire their well paid employees and at the same time look for an immediate replacement - which he can try out for 06 months under the pretext of probation period.
Personally i feel that Canada has more oppurtunities now than UAE, however if you are transiting there - why not give it a shot? Dont be discouraged by my message, it is only for you to dig deeper into the facts,
Hi,
Im currently in Dubai. The job situation is really bad here as well as in other emirates. I think most of the companies have freezed employment. Though, I see some in appointment section of gulf news. I guess, u should check out http://www.gulfnews.com" rel="nofollow">LINK and check the appoitments section. This shall give you clear idea as to where you stand. Revenue generating jobs are majorly hit in all the fields. Real estate affecting the most. One month will not be sufficient for searching the job, unless U have good contacts at the top level or with people who are decision makers. Furthermore, even if they decide to hire you.. you might not get the salary you are looking for or below industry standards.
All the best.
