Hi,

I wanted to find out what happens after you move after filing taxes.

So whilst filing taxes, do I use my current house address or the new one that I will be moving to in May/June.

Thanks

If you are filing electronically, you should get your Notice of Assessment in about 2 weeks. In that case you should provide your current address. If filig a paper return it'll take around 2 months, which may take you to mid May.

First thing you do after you move (well, actually 2 weeks before you move) is apply for "Change of Adrs" at CanadaPost.
It's $35-40, but buys you lot of mental peace.

Yes, paper filing will take longer.
If possible, go for direct deposit for your refund.

Either way, change of address is highly recommended.

I recall a few weeks old CD member's post. That guy moved after filing. The refund cheque came at his old address, which was encashed (obviously illegally) by some unknown person.

Just for my knowledge, Can someone tell me how is it possible to encash a cheque which is not in his/her own name? When u deposit the cheque in a bank, don't the teller check who is the bearer (or there is another possible way??)

Havn't seen that option. See if you can find it.
Either way, I won't trust that. After applying for change-of-adrs and updating my adrs at banks and cra, I did received few forwarded letters from my old adrs.

Have you seen those ad's : "cash cheque for 2.5% fees!" "Check cash for $20 fees!". Can you trust those places?
On top of that, banks can run after you for a bad check for upto 6 years.

That is interesting.

It means neither bank teller nor cheque cash agency(I don't know if they at least check person's ID) care to confirm the identity of the person depositing/cashing the cheque. Why bank/agency is not held responsible to complete this kind of transaction?
