Parents with zero income in 2007

hello there,

I need your ideas on filing taxes for my parents. In our experience we believe it's good to get our taxes done by an accountant but do you think it would make any difference to my parents if they have 0 income in year 2007? they immigrated to BC last year and did not work for a single day.

Should they go to a professional or just file it themselves?

They can do it themselves. If you have doubts just get a tax software. There are many free ones available on the net.

If they are new immigrants, many tax consultants also do it for free. Check your public library and settlement agency message boards. Many tax consultants do your first year free with the hope that you will return next year as paid client. Even when you are required to pay, there are few who do it for $20.00 for something...

If you dont have prior experience, it is better to let the tax consultant handle just incase you might miss some important claims you are eligible for.

Just my 2 cents.

You visit to CRA website where a list of couple of softwares is given. Some of the softwares provides filing a free tax return, Net file, if some one qualifies or allows to print a copy which can be mailed out to CRA. This facility is available upto crtain income limits.

If you wish, you can contact to me and I will file your parents tax return free of charge.
