Yeah, that's mostly myth and sensationalism, yet it doesn't make Margarine "healthy".
It's the nature of unsaturated (i.e. unstable) vegetable fats that makes it so.
Earlier they used to partially hydrogenate it, which made things worse because of the creation of trans fats.
Now they stopped doing that, but the original problem with vegetable based fats remain.
In order to offset that effect, they'll need to fully hydrogenate it thereby making it the same as saturated fat like coconut fat.
But if they did that, what's to become of all the smear campaign against saturated fats, almost all of which are traditional fats.
What's to become of the multi-billion $$ vegetable oil industry, oh no we can't have that.
Who'll contribute to the Heart and Stroke Foundation?
Who'll contribute to the AMA? the FDA?

The manufacturer of Becel - Unilever - is one of the biggest sponsors/contributors of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
These two organizations are simply scratching each other's back.
There is a huge conflict of interest here, just so you know.

So are you trying to question the crediblity of "Health Check" sign by Heart & Stroke Foundation?

Health Check is sponsored by food manufacturing companies. See this CBC Marketplace video http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/2008/01/23/hyping_health/

Even the food guide pyramid has the same controversy.

Well, for that matter lot of research done on Margarine is also questionable, but still I think "Health Check" sign carry some weight, I don't think anyone can just outright reject the credibility. And yes if you decided not to accept anything ( health check sign or research) thn what we are discussing here ? :D

Why not?
To me, given the obvious conflict of interest, the smear campaign by these commercially funded organizations against traditional diets and fats, there is very little credibility (if any at all).
These symbols are essentially health "porn" - they look good on TV, on grocery store shelves, and magazine ads.

Its a "Monsanto" world we live in (so to speak, nothing to do with margarine) but hey if someone can tell me here's some unadultrated poison, I'll take for lack of choice.

Are you asking me specifically, or is that a rhetoric question?
Please PM me if it's the former case.
