We are 4 adult and 2 babies one is 1 year old and other is 2 years. There is big price difference between car and minivan. We are planning to visit Ottawa but minivan are very exepnsive. Any good deal where can i find it.

Can we fit in sports van or big SUV because it is bit cheaper than minivan. Is it possible. Kindly let me know.

Not sure what you mean by big SUV.. look the number of seats in the vehicle.

Try renting from non-airport locations, that will be cheaper. If you are staying in a good hotel, they are likely to have airport shuttle.. you can take that to the hotel and most hotels will have some car rental agency near by or on premise. Try CAA rates.. expedia kind sites.. basically you gotto hunt around.

Shop online and check for rates. You are bound to get good rates, if your dates are flexible. Sometimes the rental shop around the corner can offer a deal if his cars are not moving recently. Be friendly with the manager and see where that can take you.

On a related note, with 2 kids and family, it is adviceable to take a 7 seater mini-van with high safety rating instead of a SUV.

Register online at Enterprise Rental Cars.
They will send you a member's card and a one-time offer for free upgrade.
Then book a full size car and use the offer to upgrade to a minivan.

I tried the same. very few (just one agency) had mini van for rental and it was about $210 f0r a weekend (Sat and Sunday).
Also note that only 600 kms is free (for 2 day rental) and after that you pay $ .15 for each Km . extra.
SUV is only 5 seat capacity.
Try to see sites in which you can share a ride.
Assuming that you have a car, you can send one person to Ottawa by Bus and then pick him up in Ottawa and ride to see all attraction (5 people at a time). Send the person in return by bus to Toronto and pick him up in the bus or let him take the TTC home.
All the best

You mean you tried the Enterprise Free upgrade and the $210 was for a full size car?
That sounds expensive for a full size car.
But for minivans that's fairly reasonable price.
Minivan rentals range from $50 at discount rental companies (like E-Z and Payless) to about $70 at the premium rental companies.
And once you add on all the junk fees, $210 for a 3 days rental (which is what a weekend will work out to be) is not expensive.

True, it's usually 300 free kms. per day for rental.
However, a trip to Ottawa from the GTA or thereabouts will not be a 2 day rental.
Most likely it's about 3 - 4 days and the 300 km. per day will cover the trip.
I had rented a car for a trip to 1,000 Islands and Ottawa a few years ago for 4 days and the kms. worked out ok.

Here is a sample of $422.00 rental for a minivan (Toyota Sienna) for 1 week, incl tax. There are other cheaper options too with Dodge Caravan....

Just do some homework, it works.
